Friday 8th March 2019

The children of Primary 2/3 are thoroughly enjoying working with our student, Miss Irvine and are experiencing lots of interesting and stimulating lessons across the curriculum.

They have been learning all about our oceans and the ecosystems that they support and carried out a science experiment to see the water cycle in action.

Primary 2/3 are having great fun learning tennis skills and have made fantastic progress in hand to eye coordination activities.

The children enjoyed playing shops, buying items and paying exact amounts during active maths and they are thoroughly enjoying all money activities.

Well done, Primary 2/3!

Fish Release Day in P3/4

The day finally came for our P3/4 Scientists to release their brown trout into the wild!

We were sad but excited to send our fish back to the River Clyde where they belong.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We walked up to a stream in Drumpelier Lawns and all released the trout at the same time. It was a wonderful sight to see them swim away. We hope they all make it to the river and some onto the ocean!

We have all absolutely loved taking part in this topic and would like to thank our scientist Willie for helping us along the way.

The Big Bang!

In p5/6 we have been creating our own Solar System… Through using balloons, paper, flour, water, and silicone gel, we were able to make our planets.

We then mixed primary colours to colour our models!

Monday 25th February 2019

The boys and girls really enjoyed their class trip to Amazonia at M&D’s today. They learned about the habitats of different animals/reptiles and amphibians. They also learned about what layers in the Rainforest these animals would live. They were very brave and held some of the animals in the handling room.

Clyde in the Classroom in P3/4

Our topic this term ‘Clyde in the Classroom’ has been focussed around raising brown trout from egg to fry. We have learned lots about the life cycle of trout, and have gained lots of skills in looking after them. Each day we monitored their tank temperature and added bottles of ice to keep them cool.

Week 1

Week 3

Week 5

We have loved watching our eggs hatch and our fish grow bigger and bigger! We will be releasing them this Thursday back into the River Clyde and will miss them very much!

Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade Fortnight started at school today with an assembly performed by our Fairtrade Eco Committee.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Our Committee explained that for Fairtrade Fortnight this year, the focus is on cocoa farmers. At school we will be raising money for these farmers by selling Fairtrade bananas at playtime. We will also be selling raffle tickets for a Fairtrade Chocolate Hamper.

To encourage pupils to think about where their food comes from, we are having a Fairtrade Snack Competition. Every playtime we will count how many Fairtrade snacks each class has, and at the end of the fortnight the class who had the most Fairtrade snacks will win a Fairtrade Hot Chocolate Afternoon. Any snack with the Fairtrade logo will be counted.

Good luck everyone! Check back here next week to find out who the winners are!

Space Exploration!

Today we looked at the planets of the Solar System, how far they are from the sun, what they look like, and their diameters. We discussed how a circle can be measured using diameter, radius, and circumference. We also scaled down the actual diameters of planets to allow us to create scale models outside…

Well done p5/6 for working hard together and creating some interesting outdoor drawings of what the Solar System looks like!
