ECO and Fairtrade Committee

ECO and Fairtrade Committee aims for 2022/2023
The Eco Fairtrade Committee are proud to be working towards their 7th Eco Flag.
Our targets for 2025 include –
Litter and Waste Reduction – to reduce the amount of waste in our school and eventually become litter free.
Health and Wellbeing – to promote outdoor learning and looking after ourselves by caring for our school garden.
Biodiversity – to encourage insects and birds to visit our garden by creating wild areas where they can roam free.
We are currently a Fair Achieving school which means we raise money for Fairtrade farmers during Fairtrade Fortnight and Advent. We promote ethical eating by encouraging Fairtrade snacks.

Eco-Schools is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world and is designed to encourage whole-school action on sustainable development education issues.

It is an environmental management tool, a learning resource and a recognised award scheme.  It empowers young people to take action towards an economically, socially and environmentally just world. Over 98% of Scotland’s local authority schools now participate in the initiative, as well as many more independent and early years establishments.  Over 46% of participants have attained the internationally-recognised symbol of excellence in sustainable development education, the Green Flag Award.

Our Eco committee are responsible for helping to make St Kevin’s a sustainable environment. They have organised events such as Eco Days as well as fruit selling and they continually carry out responsibilities in emptying recycling bins, maintaining our compost bin, litter picking, monitoring energy use in the school building and overall ensuring that the aims and values of Eco Schools Scotland are upheld.
