As well as developing skills and knowledge in each individual subject, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) related learning aims to develop young people’s ability to work across disciplines through project-based learning. These approaches enable young people to become familiar with the way STEM skills and knowledge are used in the world of work. In industry and workplace environments, individuals and teams with various expertise and skills would work together to generate new knowledge, ideas and products.

 

Here at St. Helen’s, our Primary 7 learners are working towards achieving a leadership award through the ‘Young STEM Leaders’ programme. This enables young people to develop their interests, skills and pathways in STEM. It provides opportunities for our Primary 7 children to lead learning for other younger learners. We are also developing our STEM Committee this year, to provide learners across wider year groups with further leadership opportunities.

 

Learners are also building upon their understanding of ‘Developing the Young Workforce’ and will take part in a range of offerings related to this such as our upper school STEM Careers Fair Event and a variety of enterprise workshops. Such events were a huge success last year and we are excited to deliver these again.
