Promoting Positive Behaviour

Here, in our St. Helen’s family, we aim to create an inclusive and nurturing environment, where all children are happy and respected.

Our Catholic ethos and Gospel values are at the heart of our school community. In St. Helen’s we pride ourselves on having an excellent ethos. A good relationship between pupil and teacher is similar to that between the child and his or her parents, requiring mutual consideration and respect.

We believe building and nurturing positive relationships, in a trauma informed manner, is key to the development for the children in our school. Our school visions encourage children to be the best we can be, make a difference, work together and aim higher, whilst displaying our school values of Faith, Respect, Inclusion, Nurture and Success (FRINS).

House Points System, Special Mentions, Steps to Success and Reflection Time are all encompassed within our Supporting Positive Behaviour Policy and these help to recognise and celebrate children’s individual and collective positive behaviour and achievements. All staff have a clear understanding of our policy to ensure that throughout the school attitudes towards pupils are consistent.

By supporting positive behaviour, we aim to:

  • Encourage positive behaviour
  • Reward positive behaviour
  • Provide all children with the skills and qualities required to make responsible and informed choices
  • Ensure positive relationships are maintained between pupils, staff, parents, and our wider school community
  • Reflect on behaviours that are inappropriate or that may cause upset to others
  • Ensure there is a consistency in behaviour management from all staff across the school

It is essential that parents work in partnership with the school to support their child in developing as a responsible member of the community.

There is a substantial body of research evidence to support the view that school uniform has a positive effect on a variety of factors. For example, the wearing of school uniform is associated with increased achievement and attainment and also with better behaviour and ethos. There are also a number of other benefits such as removing peer pressure to wear the latest designer clothes to school. In addition, school uniform represents very good value for money.
