How are you all? I hope you are all working hard and helping your parents out at home.
As always, let’s begin the day with our morning prayer. 🙏🏻
To get our brains switched on this morning I thought we could begin with a few fun riddles:
What is full of holes but still holds water?
What becomes wetter the more it dries?
What belongs to you but others use it more than you?
What goes up but never comes down?
What kind of coat can only be put on when wet?
These should get your brains working today and I will post the answers tomorrow morning. I had good fun trying to work them out, you all know how much I love riddles. Good luck!
God Our Father, As we begin our days work, we ask you to help us to use properly the many gifts that you have given us, so that we may fully benefit from our day together.
St Barbara, Pray for us.
Please say a Hail Mary for all those who are sick
Let’s wake ourselves up and start our day with a Joe Wick’s workout.
MATHS
Here is an eggcellent way to revise your knowledge of times tables. Make your very own ‘Egg Carton Shake Up’ game and compete against a family member.
For numeracy today let’s practise some real life application of place value. You will be changing money, lengths and weights into their decimal forms. Watch the video lessons carefully, try to answer the examples given in the clip. Finish by checking how well you did. You can choose to complete the Bronze or Silver level; or you can have a go at both. I would recommend wearing earphones as you listen, it might help you to focus fully.
Last term in class we watched Cressida Cowell on Authors Live. It was a very interesting show as it gave us an insight into where she gets her ideas and how she goes about writing her amazing stories. The link above will take you to a Power Point with a variety of Authors Live activities. There are five different authors to choose from. You should select a slide and copy and paste the link into your URL. This will take you to some amazing events with real life authors. Try to complete suggested activities linked to your chosen event.
Revise your knowledge and understanding of similes and metaphors by watching the BBC Bitesize lesson below:
If you have time today you might choose an activity form your new Learning Grid.
Have a lovely day boys and girls. Try to enjoy some time outdoors; we are very lucky that the sun is shining. Try hard to help around the house, your parents are extremely busy and would appreciate your helping hands.
A huge well done to Keiran New for making a very cosy reading den in which to enjoy his new David Walliams book. I hear that you are a big brother Keiran. I know that you will be an amazing brother! Congratulations!
Good morning girls and boys!😁 I hope you have been having fun with your home learning. Please begin today with your morning prayer and say a special ‘Hail Mary’ for all the people who are sick in our world and for those caring for them.

RE
Today is St George’s Day, St George is the Patron St of England. Here is a little story of St George and the dragon. Perhaps you can draw a little picture of St George and the dragon for me?
Here is an extra idea for you if you find the time (or you could work on it for next Thursday), can you make your own musical instrument to play and cheer for the NHS?
Hope you have a great day and remember to enjoy the sunshine, try to do some exercise outside 🌞
Good morning everyone, start today with our morning prayer and a Hail Mary for all those who are sick and for all our NHS workers who are working hard in all the hospitals across the country.
H&WB
Keep moving boys and girls, either with Joe Wicks or Jump start Johnny or even Oti Mabuse! Exercise is not only good for the body but great for the mind. It makes you feel good! Therefore I have attached some Workout Challenges for you. You don’t need any fancy resources, in fact you will see that you have most of them in your house already! Do you have a pillow ? Or even a bag or box of mismatched socks?!?!? Hahaha if your house is like mine, I’m sure you will! My girls are doing the sock game today! Try it out!
Literacy
For 15-20 minutes, ask an adult to help you revise your phoneme words, ask them to dictate short sentences for you.
On Monday, I asked you to start reading a book of your choice. By now you should have completed at least one chapter. I would like you to use one of your comprehension strategies – Visualisation. Choose a descriptive setting or character from your text and draw and label your drawing. Remember, this is how you imagine it to look like using the descriptive language from book. Feel free to send me these.
A follow on task from this: Can you list the adjectives used in this phrase? Can you remember what an adjective is? Find out if not. Next, using adjectives, describe your own appearance or a family member’s. You can draw a portrait of them too.
Numeracy
Let’s start with practising our counting this morning, you should try to count in 2s,3s,5s and 10s. Have a look at that following link, there are lots of activities you can do here to support your counting.

Today, I want to look at rounding.
Think about the number 27. It sits between 20 and 30 on the number line.
These are the closest TENS to 27, but which is closest?
27 is 7 steps away from 20 but only 3 steps away from 30 so if we are rounding to the nearest TEN then 27 is rounded (nearer) to 30.
We say that, “27 rounded to the nearest ten is 30.”
The ruleis:- If a number has a 1, 2, 3, or 4 in its units then we round down.
Examples – 24 rounds down to 20, 61 rounds down to 60, 353 rounds down to 350,
27,451 rounds down to 27,450
If the number has 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 in the units then we round up.
Examples – 58 rounds up to 60, 69 rounds up to 70, 397 rounds up to 400,
1,456 rounds up to 1460, 27,305 rounds up to 27,310
1.Round these numbers to the nearest 10
a) 46 b) 82 c)19 d) 84
e) 146 f) 181 g) 219 h) 424
i) 65 j) 195 k) 203 l) 888
2.There were 137 pupils at the school dance. Round this to the nearest 10.
3.It is 432 miles from my home to my secret submarine. Round this to the nearest 10 miles.
4.My bed is 196cm long. Round this to the nearest 10 cm.
5. After a lottery win was shared out each winner received £476. Round this to the nearest 10 pounds.
Write your answers in your jotter and I’ll post them tomorrow. You can also send them to me at
gw09mcintoshdavid3@glow.sch.uk
There are more questions like this in your Sumdog challenge this week and in your Studyladder learning pod.
Here is Cressida Cowell reading Chapter 11 (part 2) of, “How to Train your Dragon.”
The Hairy Hooligans have turned to the book, “How to Train your Dragon” to find out how to deal with the enormous sea dragon that is sitting on their beach. The advice is, “Yell at it!”
After listening to the chapter review the advice given in the book. Would you say that it was successful?
We know that yelling does work for smaller dragons so is the advice all bad?
Can you think of any way that the Hairy Hooligans could have followed the advice to, “Yell at it.” and it would have worked?
We also have some new reading materials for you to work on. Your parents should have received a username and password for Scholastic Books yesterday. Follow this link
This afternoon I would like you do some R.E work. This week we have had a look at prayer. Today we are looking at The Lord’s Prayer. This a prayer that you all know from school. Please have a look at the power point which will take you through each line.
When you have read through the power point I would like you carefully think about what each line means. Copy each line down into your jotter and draw a picture to represent what it means.
End this task by trying to say The Lord’s Prayer.
Like always, I would love to see some of your work so feel free to send some pictures. Also drop me a message if you have any questions regarding your work. mcmullenke@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk
Remember it is not compulsory for you to complete every single task just do what you can manage and ensure you take lots of breaks. You also have access to a brand new home learning grid for some further challenge tasks.
It is Wednesday today and you have already completed two days of home learning. Well done, give yourself a pat on the back. I am so impressed with how hard you have all been working. Keep it up!👏
Let’s great ready for another fun filled day of learning!
Below I will include any additional information that will help to support your child with the tasks that I have assigned for today.
Literacy

Usually when we are learning a new sound, you all love when I give you clues and you have to try and guess which word I am thinking of. Well today I have planned a fun little task for you!
Parents, please do not feel under pressure to complete all of these tasks, this is just a guide. Just do what you can and what best suits your family circumstances. I really appreciate all of your help and support during this challenging time.😊
