Primary 1a 27/4/2020

Good morning, boys and girls. I hope you had a good weekend and enjoyed the lovely, sunny weather.

There are lots of new things for you to learn this week but I think it would be a good idea to start the day off with some exercises. Today I thought we could work out with Joe Wicks.  The lessons are called “PE with Joe” and they are streamed live on Joe Wicks’ You Tube channel at 9am, Monday to Friday.

Clipart Boy Exercise Did you enjoy that? Remember to drink plenty of water during and after exercising to keep your body hydrated!

Boys and girls remember that you can also go outside for some exercise. You can go for a walk, play on your trampoline, ride your bike or any other activity you choose.  But remember; you can only do this with people who live with you!

Number

Ok boys and girls we are going to start off today by counting and clapping to 30.

Now clap back from 30 to 0.

Ok. Now count on in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and see how far you can get.

Now practise your days, months and seasons.

I wonder if you could make a season wheel today?  All you have to do is draw a circle (you can use a plate, pot lid or anything round as a template).

Now, split the circle into 4 parts.  First draw a line from top to bottom through the circle. Now, draw a line from left to right through the circle. It should look like this:

Fraction Pie Divided into Quarters | ClipArt ETC

Now, you draw one of the seasons in each quarter of the circle and remember to think about what each season looks like! Think about the weather,  the clothes and the celebrations that go with each season. Here is one that’s already done to help you.

Fab Mums » Monday Crafts: The touchy feely spinning season wheel

The first number game today is really easy – all you have to do is identify numbers between 10 and 20! Here is the link to the first game.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/blast-off

Now you are going to practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Don’t worry, there are pictures in this game to help you if you are unsure.  Here is the link to the second game.

Literacy

Phonics:

Boys and girls today I would like you to practise all your letter sounds and phonemes that you’ve learned so far.

Firstly, you can sing along with the songs and show your family the actions.

Here is a link to the site:

Rhttps://vimeo.com/106231366

Now, I would like you to practise writing each letter sound and phoneme and think of a word that starts with each sound.

eg: d = dog,    sh = shop.

You could play a game with your family and take it in turns to name something which starts with each letter sound.

Here is a link to a game which will help you practise your phonemes.  I’m sure you will enjoy it!

Reading

I would like you to choose a new book today.  Try to read your book but remember to ask for help with tricky words and use the pictures to help you to read.

Read your book 2 or 3 times.  Now, I would like you to be a text detective and look for your common words in your book.

Write down as many as you can find.

Now, pick 2 common words and write an interesting sentence with them.  Remember capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

R.E

Boys and girls, some of you may have made a seasons wheel today so you will have been thinking about the 4 seasons.  Spring is my favourite season because everywhere you look there are new and beautiful things to see; baby animals, spring flowers, plants and little chicks.

Here is a power-point all about spring for you to watch and discuss.

-all-about-spring-powerpoint_ver_3 (2)

I would like you to say a little prayer to thank our Heavenly Father for the beautiful world he has created for us.

You could even write your prayer down and illustrate it with a beautiful picture.

Remember boys and girls, you don’t have to do everything!  Just try to complete as much work as you can.

I hope you have a great day,

Mrs Connolly.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Primary 4/3

Friday 24 April 2020

Good morning boys and girls!!  Rise and shine, I think it’s to be a lovely day and it’s Friday!! That’s our first week after the Easter holidays over.   Yesterday was a much better day than my weather app had told me.  It was actually quite sunny and not as cloudy as they had said.  Today it has to be even warmer (fingers crossed).

So before we start we will remember to say our prayers.  Let’s begin with our Morning Prayer and we will say a Hail Mary and  an Our Father.  We will take time to remember all of the people who need a little prayer and ask God to keep them and ourselves safe.

Let’s take our learning outside today!!  Remember to put on some sun screen and wear a hat.

How do you fancy some shadow drawing!!

Today we are going to base our learning around your marvellous creations.  You can use your favourite toys to make a scene like the child in the picture.  You are going to use the sunshine to trace round the shadows of your toys on paper (single sheets will do then you can join them).

Look at your drawings, now you are going to use them to write.  What will you decide to do?  An imaginative story, a newspaper report, what title will you give your piece of writing?  It’s all up to you.  I can’t wait to read them, please email or post your drawings along with your stories to SBoyce@st-barbaras.n-lanark.sch.uk or gw09boyceshirley2@glow.sch.uk or our Twitter.

If you have time remember to test yourself on this week’s words.

Thank you to the boys and girls who sent me in pictures of their work from yesterday.  Well done, I was very impressed with what you remembered about your parts of speech. 🥇

Numeracy

Today I would like you to continue with your stepping stones from yesterday.  If you haven’t given it a go, try today.  If you have chalk you might want to use that (if you are allowed).  Write the numbers 0 to 12 on the ground or on paper and test yourself on a table of your choice.  Keep a record of your time and you will be able to see how fast you can get.

Sumdog Challenge Update – Well done to all the amazing mathematicians who have completed their Sumdog Challenge.   If you can, try to finish before the deadline at 2.30 pm today.  I can see that you have been working hard on your Place Value.🥇

RE  🙏🏻

Let’s take a short time out of our day to think about what we have achieved this week.  We thank God for all the beautiful things that we can smell, hear and see whilst outside.  We can also thank God for ourselves.  Look at all the wonderful things we can do, how much we have learned in our time at school.  We are all unique and very special to God and our families, so we need to remember that and give thanks to God.

Boys and girls you have worked very hard this week and I want you to give yourselves a great big pat on the back.  You should be proud of all you have achieved and I hope you have a lovely weekend in the sunshine with your families.  Take care and I will be back again next week.

for you to work on.

Let me know how you get on at

There is also a short place value assessment waiting for you on Sumdog today. It only lasts for one day so you’ll need to do it before dinner time.

Here is Cressida Cowell reading Chapter 13 of, “How to Train your Dragon.”

But today I want you to look back at the similes in Chapter 11

Have a look at this work on how to understand and use similes and metaphors,

Then try the activities that follow it.

If you haven’t checked already, there is a road safety design competition starting on the school’s Twitter today.

You could also try some Spanish alphabet today.

For Health today I want you to look back over your week and make a list of the things that you have achieved. You are all dealing with big changes in the way that you live and learn and today is a great opportunity to remind yourself that you are doing well.

As you round out your week remember that you and your family can still celebrate Mass on the St. Barbara’s Facebook page.

Good morning Super Stars 🌟

Today is Happy Friday! What makes it even better, is that, it has to be another beautiful sunny day today! Make sure you enjoy it!☀️

Let’s start by saying an Our Father and thanking God for this beautiful weather. I would also like you to say a special prayer to ask God to look after all of those brave NHS workers who are doing such an amazing job right now.🙏🏻 I was out on my doorstep last night clapping with everyone at 8pm to say a great big thank you to them and all of the other amazing key workers. Were you?👏

We know that  Friday’s are special in school because if you work hard and try your best, then you get golden time. You have already done a great job this week so far, let’s see if you can try some of today’s tasks and then you can get some golden time this afternoon. 💫

Friday 24th April 2020

Good Morning Primary 3,

Happy Friday!!

We have had a busy week full of lots of revision. Before you do anything else give yourself a big pat on the back. You are working so hard and Miss McMullen is very proud of each and every one of you.

Before you begin your work today please take some time to say the morning prayer. Please also say a Hail Mary and Our Father for anyone who is sick at this time.

I had so much fun doing some literacy tasks in the garden that I thought you might want to give some of them a go. To begin today we are going to revise our work on nouns. Can you remember the definition of a noun?

Take a look at our poster to remind you.

Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives | Nouns, adjectives, Parts of speech ...

Now, if you are able, go outside and try to make some nouns using items from your garden. Take a look at some that I tried in my own garden by clicking the link below.

Nouns

Now lets revise our spelling words from this week and get our bodies moving at the same time.

Use the poster below and spell out your name. Now challenge yourself and spell out some of this weeks spelling words. Miss McMullen was very much out of breath after this task.

Spell Your Name Workout - What's Your Name? Fitness Activity ...

Now we should all be feeling tired so lets relax with some reading. Choose a story to read, this can be one you have at home or an ebook from Oxford Owl. Sit down, chill out and read quietly to yourself. You might choose to do this in your garden or maybe curled up on your couch. Wherever you feel you can relax.

For Numeracy today we are going to bring together some of the concepts we have been working on this week. Please click the link below to access some tasks.

Numeracy Friday

This afternoon, if you are able, go into your garden and try to make up a game to play using things you can find. Click the link below to take a look at my bowling alley using my nieces ball and bottles from my recycle bin. As you will see, I didn’t quite manage a strike.

Bowling Alley

Please ask an adults permission before using any household items or things from your garden.

Now please do not worry if there are any tasks you cannot manage. Just do what you can and take plenty of breaks. As it is Friday, finish off today by giving yourself some well deserved golden time. If you aren’t able to go outside today try some of the tasks with items you find indoors.

Please keep an eye on Twitter today to find out how you can enter our Road Safety competition.

Have a lovely day and a fantastic weekend. I hope to hear from you all soon.

Take care!
