The eagle-eyed among you might have spotted that new learning grids have been uploaded today. There are quite a few activities I think that you are going to enjoy.
Macavity the Mystery Cat Challenge!
On the last learning grid I set a task based on one of my favourite poems: Macavity the Mystery Cat. I challenged you to write an additional verse. Well, below you will find a super verse written by Rachael:
Macavity, Macavity, he likes to be well-known
He always knew he would be the cat that had the heart of stone.
You might lose your golden treasure or your fruits like grapes or pears;
But when you start to find them all, Macavity’s not there!
He may give your kids a fright, or even quite a scare
But when the parents come to see, Macavity is not there!
He has been away for weeks now, oh where could he have gone?
But when you become fast asleep – he will be there all along!
Fantastic work, Rachael! I really enjoyed reading your work and I think that TS Eliot, the poet would have loved it too!

Literacy Task
Creating a Tourist Guide
Note: this task might take a day or two to complete.
Many people use a Tourist Guide when they visit a new country, city or town. Your task is to select one of the cities or towns from your spelling list and to carry out some research. You are going to write a couple of paragraphs about the city/town giving key information for a tourist visiting Scotland.
You might want to consider the following:
- Population
- Landmarks (e.g. museums, galleries, lochs, rivers, mountains etc.)
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Activities for families
- Airports/ports/rail transport links
- Theatres
- Recreational facilities (e.g. football stadia with tours, leisure centres, visitor centres etc.)
Remember: this is a guide for tourists. You could include some illustrations or maps however it has to be brief and include all of the salient (key) information about your selected town or city (tourists are eager to see the sights – they will not have time to read for a long period of time). I’m looking forward to reading some of your work as I haven’t been to some of those places…perhaps you might persuade me to visit some in the future!

Yesterday was Good Shepherd Sunday. We remember that Jesus is the Good Shepherd and that we are just like his sheep. A good shepherd looks after all of his sheep and he always makes sure that he knows exactly where each one is. A good shepherd worries about each and every one of his sheep and he keeps them safe and well.
Yesterday Fr. Campbell told a true story during Mass about a shepherdess who lives on one of the Scottish Islands far north of the Scottish mainland.
She had a flock of sheep and one of these sheep had a little lamb. Nothing unusual about that; however the mother sheep wouldn’t look after the lamb and wouldn’t feed it or care for it. That is unusual.
The shepherdess, a good shepherdess looked after the lamb herself. She fed it and cared for it; she even gave it a name – Norman!
In due course she sold some lambs at auction, including Norman. A while later, she regretted her decision. She traced him all the way to a farm in Aberdeen – hundreds of miles from where she lived.
She travelled all the way to Aberdeen to the farm. There were seven hundred lambs in the field but she recognized Norman. Amazingly, Norman recognized her when she called his name and came running over to her! They both went back to the islands.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He always recognizes each one of us and he always takes care of us. Even when we do something wrong, he welcomes us back with open arms when we say that we’re sorry.
