Please note the school newsletter for Aug – Sept was issued to all pupils today.  There are a number of important dates for your diary and lots of information for the start for the new school session.  Please check your child’s bag.  An electronic copy is also available on the school website.  Please contact the school office if you do not have a paper copy and one will be provided.

Welcome Back

It was wonderful to welcome everyone back to  school after the long summer break.  We hope you all had a lovely summer holiday with your family.  We can happily report that everyone settled in well to their new classes and looked resplendent in their new uniforms.  They really are a credit to you all.  Our new Pr. 1 pupils were fantastic and enjoyed making lots of new friends.  The Pr.7 buddies have been doing a great job supporting the newest members of our school community settle in to their new environment.

We look forward to working with you all in the year ahead.

Class Charter

In order to support a positive learning environment for pupils and to help make the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) more prominent and relevant P7 had the opportunity today for quality discussions to take place.  We  discussed what makes a good class and shared the qualities we would like our teachers to have and what we need to do to be good pupils as well as what we would like included in our lessons.

By taking part in this task we encouraged lots of pupil led dialogue and got to share what is most important to us in our own classroom context.  Our next steps are to agree what is most important to us – we might even vote before agreeing on our Class Charter.

Return To School

School is open to pupils tomorrow. Classes from Primary 2 to Primary 7 should line up in their new classes (allocated before the holidays). New Primary 1 pupils should arrive at 9.30 am (for the first day only and can be picked up from 2.45 pm). They will be brought straight into class and parents can stay briefly for a photo opportunity. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Free School Meals and Clothing Grants

A reminder to parents who are eligible for FSM or Clothing Grants that applications should now be made.

Parent/carers who applied last year have either been issued with a notice of consent or with a change of details letter. Application forms can also be downloaded via: http://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals ]www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals.

Early submission of applications should be encouraged to ensure clothing grants are made and free school meals are registered for the start of the new session.

The whole school gathered today for our end of term assembly. We took the opportunity to review our term and celebrate some of our success over this period.  Congratulations to our maths, writers and artist stars of the month.  Well done everyone.

Today we awarded netball stars, football stars and received awards for attendance as well as celebrating the fact Monklands won the sports day points tally.

We are immensely proud of everyone for their hard work and commitment over the past year and wish our primary 7 children well as they go off to pastures new.

We hope everyone has a fabulous summer holiday.  Keep safe everyone.  We can’t wait to see you in August.
