Financial concerns as a result of lockdown

Ways to ease the burden of worry

If you are struggling financially as a result of the coronavirus outbreak there is a wealth of helpful information and advice on the web.

If you have been told by your employer not to work, Citizens Advice Scotland has information on what this means for you, including details around ‘furloughing’ – what it is, who’s eligible and how to arrange it.

If you’re really struggling to get by as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the Scottish Welfare Fund provides an emergency safety net for people on low incomes and benefits, especially in times of crisis. Visit NLC web page for more information and to find out if you might be eligible. The service is very busy just now so if you can’t get through straight away, please bear with us and keep trying.

Get practical help and advice to better manage and control your budget, keep energy bills down and remain on top of your finances while we all stay safe at home.

And remember If your income has been reduced, you may be entitled to help with your council tax/housing benefit. Calculate and claim housing benefit and council tax reduction.

You can find a range of additional useful pointers on our Coronavirus, ‘Your Money’ web page.

Morning Everyone!

Good Morning Everyone!! ☀😎

It’s Thursday which means we’ll be clapping our NHS and key workers later tonight 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
They really are heroes and deserve all our appreciation so be sure to clap and cheer as loud as you can! 💙🌈

Here is a task to consider doing today or later!
Take some time to look at the image  –

– Think about what it’s trying to tell you? (Why/What)
– What impact does it have on you? (How)

Using the image as your inspiration you could try to:-

– write a hero themed story
– create a poem based on our NHS and key workers
– design a poster with a similar theme

As always we would love you to share you work and ideas. So please take a picture and put it on your glow page.  We’ll try to feature some of them on the blog.

Take care, stay safe and have a wonderful day!

Eco – Schools At Home

We have received a communication from Keep Scotland Beautiful who are developing some resources for working at home.  They have asked us to share with you two resources currently available on their website.  Further details below:

The Pop-up Pocket Garden is a gardening project that can be done at home in a small space outdoors, or indoors on a windowsill.  It provides a great opportunity for children and young people aged 3 – 18 years to design and grow a small garden. There are themes to inspire you and a design brief to guide practical building and growing. They are looking for exciting and unusual designs that use edible plants, plants that attract wildlife and will reuse something which would otherwise have been thrown away.  The best Pop-up Pocket Gardens will be featured on the Keep Scotland Beautiful website to celebrate your ideas and skills and inspire others.

For children aged 8-25 years old, Young Reporters Scotland is a perfect opportunity to investigate and report on an environmental or sustainability issue which matters to you. The competition is designed to give young people a platform to express their opinions and solutions for environmental issues in addition to providing an opportunity to develop their own journalistic skills.

North Lanarkshire Update

Each week North Lanarkshire Council will provide useful information to support you with home learning alongside the learning activities on our Glow site.

Here are some suggestions –

* create a timetable to put structure into your week. Planning will help reduce the stress and anxiety.

*decide what aspects of the daily routines will stay the same at home and use your child’s usual day as a starting point.

*serve lunch at the same time as it would be in school and encourage your child to use this time to catch up with a friend online to provide social engagement.

North Lanarkshire website aims to provide regular newsletters that will give you additional suggested health and wellbeing activities that you can do with your child. They will be based around the wellbeing indicators (Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, Achieving, Responsible, Respected and Included).

The North Lanarkshire website will  also provide regular newsletters which will give you digital activities you can do with your child. These will focus on literacy, numeracy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering Maths) and digital skills.

Welcome Back to our Final Term

Our final school term for 2019 – 2020 starts very differently than anyone of us would have contemplated way back in August. Home learning and remote teaching are now becoming features of our day to day life that we would never have previously considered  but here we are and we need to make the best of things in such unprecedented times. As you know your child’s teacher has remained committed to ensuring learning continues for your child even in these strange times.  Please encourage your child to log into their glow account, to leave a comment for their teacher, give an update on what they have been up to and review the weekly plan that has been provided.  We really appreciate that home learning will place demands upon you as a parent but please do not put yourself or your child under stress to complete work.  Doing what you can and when you can will be enough.  We are acutely aware that there will be many opportunities for you as a family to spend time doing things you don’t often do together and these are all great learning opportunities and moments to cherish – gardening, baking, cooking, walking, cycling, playing board games, making your own board games, interviewing family members, making your own programmes/movies on the i-pad.  The list is endless.  Please share them with us on our school twitter but please remember not to post your child’s name alongside their image.  We would love to hear from you.  Please get in touch with myself by e-mail if you have a query you would like assistance with.

Please take care and stay safe

God Bless

Mrs. Docherty
