Angle Work with Room 13

Room 13 have just started learning about angles. As an introduction, they created Angle Munchers…strange little beings with rather large mouths. Interestingly, their mouths are a perfect right angle and whilst a right-angled snack is their favourite to munch on, they also enjoy the occasional acute angle treat.
However, as the children found out, an obtuse angled snack is a little too big for even the most hungry Muncher.

The newly painted playground proved to be snacktastic!

Sporting Champions

Two of our Pr.6 pupils returned to school jubilant after their success at the weekend.  One pupil won 1st place in the relay at the Scottish Indoor Athletic Championships and also won a medal in the 75 metre sprint race.  Our other champion came 9th in the World Irish Dancing Championships at Killarney.  Two very talented boys.  Great work.  St.Augustine’s is very proud of both of you.

The boys and girls of Rooms 13 – 16 were treated to a museum visit with a difference today that enhanced their learning about the First and Second World Wars whilst also giving them an opportunity to handle the exhibits and learn some new and interesting facts.  Many thanks to Ian and his mobile museum.  We are sure to invite Ian back for further workshop session next year.

Room 8 – 16 Assembly

Mrs.Elliott lead this afternoons assembly and celebrated the achievements of our superstars and also our cup winning Gaelic Football Team from Saturday.  They won the St.Patricks Cup which was a wonderful achievement.  As you can see from the smiles our team were feeling very proud of their achievement and success.  Well done team!!

Sharing the Learning

A highly entertaining morning took place last week as the boys and girls of Room 12 and Room 15 shared their learning.  The boys and girls of Room 12 shared the novels they had written during our Literacy Week.  Children read enthusiastically and enjoyed the opportunity to impress others with their novels.  Mrs.McGlone reported that she was really pleased that this was successfully received by both classes. Well done authors!

Literacy Assembly Pr. 4 – 7

On Friday we continued our celebration of World Book Day.  After our attendance at First Friday Mass the boys and girls changed into their costumes that were based upon characters from the world of fiction.  It really was fantastic to see such a great response from pupils across the school.  Our Friday morning assembly involved the pupils of Pr. 4 – 7 who listened to a recap of the weeks events and then had a parade in their costumes.  We look forward to next week when the boys and girls across the school share the books they have written themselves in class.  We also have timetabled slots to visit the book fair.  A busy week ahead as always at St.Augustine’s.  As son as we have pictures of the Pr.1 – 3 assembly we will post them on the blog.

Confirmation Service

image-300x300A warm congratulations is extended to all Pr.6 and Pr.7 pupils who who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday evening.  I am sure you must have all felt extremely proud of yourselves.  The school staff and your parents could not have felt more proud of you all at a service that was both moving and uplifting.  You were a real credit to your families.

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on those who received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Grant them:
the gift of WISDOM to see the world through Your eyes;
the gift of COUNSEL to make difficult decisions;
the gifts of KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING to use their minds to know You and to love You;
the gift of FORTITUDE to have the courage to live out their faith, despite difficulties and disappointments;
the gift of PIETY to be able to express their love and commitment to You;
the right kind of awesome FEAR that makes them pause each day to wonder at and revere God’s amazing love.
Amen
