Yesterday our keen gardeners thoroughly enjoyed a visit to Blairhill Allotments. It was a lovely day and the children learned lots of new things and saw lots of interesting ideas that we can use in our school garden.
Here are some of the activities the children enjoyed –
We saw lots of recycled items being used in the allotments such as – old yoghurt tubs being used for plant pots, pallets used for planting displays, old railway sleepers used for raised beds and growing plants in unusual items like a bath.
We played a guessing game where we had to match the seed to the vegetable.
We saw compost heaps and discussed why gardens need worms.
We saw how a water butt works.
We noticed that some gardeners had planted flowers beside their vegetables to attract bees and butterflies.
A great time was had by all.
A big thank you to Vivien and Kate for organising the visit and activities.

Health Week
Our Health Week is well underway with children enjoying orienteering, Tesco food tasting and cooking. Here are a few pictures that capture the week so far!!
Tesco Visits
This week and last week classes have been very busy visiting Tesco as part of their Farm to Fork initiative. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came back enthused after their trip. It was wonderful that the sun was shining to make the short walk to Tesco and most enjoyable one. Many thanks to all the parent helpers who assisted on the various visits. Your support is most appreciated.
Enterprise Afterschool Club
Our Enterprise Afterschool Club are now busy at work decorating their plant pots for selling at our Sunflower Tea. They will be planting sunflower seeds in the pots next week. Great work boys and girls!
Maths in Room 3
The Pr.1 children of Room 3 have been getting to grips with a new maths resource called Numicon to aid them in their understanding of number and maths. The boys and girls of Room 1 and 2 have also become proficient in using this new resource.
Daily Mile
Room 3 and 4 were out in the lovely sunshine last week enjoying their ‘Daily Mile’ challenge. Both classes have been walking, jogging or running their mile and have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. As you can see they are very enthusisatic about keeping fit and healthy!
Pr. 1- 3 Garden Club
What a lovely day everyone had for the first garden club of the year!
The children used their first day to familiarise themselves with where we are now with the garden.
They looked at what is currently growing in our greenhouse.
They investigated the new compost bin and discussed how our school could use it.
They also had a look around the shed and learned about tool safety.
Finally the children watered the plants and had a go using a garden tool.
The children will now help with future plans for our garden.
A great time had by all!
