Craft Fayre 

Thank you very much to everyone who supported the Parent Council Craft Fayre by coming along on Saturday or by donating items.  There are some left-over Craft Items that will be sold in school this week.

Nursery Student Teacher

Corrine Penrice from the University of West of Scotland will begin a two week teaching placement in the nursery from Monday 30th November 2015.

What’s on Week Beginning 23rd November 2015

Christmas Fayre 

  • The Parent Council Christmas Fayre will take place on Saturday 28th Nov from 12pm-2pm.  We look forward to seeing you there.  Entry is £1.50 for an adult and £1 for a child.  There will be lots of stalls and a ‘special visitor’ too.  The children have been making Craft Items in class which can be purchased at the fair.  The Parent Council are looking for tombola prize donations and home baking for the tea stall – if you can help out, please hand items into the school.  Thank you!

Non-uniform Day

  • This Friday in non-uniform day for just £1 per pupil, with all proceeds going to our ongoing School Playground improvements.  It has been suggested that we have a “House Colour” day.  The children (and staff) are encouraged to wear something in their house colour and the house with the most of their colour will win 100 house points!

Bowls After School Club

The local bowling club have offered to run an after school club for P5-7 pupils on a Wednesday.  This will start next week.  Letters about it will be issued this week.

Work Experience Pupil

An S4 pupil  from St. Aidan’s HS will be in school this week for work experience.  She will shadow the Classroom Assistants, giving her an opportunity to work in all areas of the school.

School Photographs

School Photographer will be in school on Wednesday 4th November 2015.  All children including the nursery will have an individual and class group photograph taken.  Family groups will be taken for children whose parents have returned a request slip.  This year, only children who attend school/nursery can be included in family groups.

WoW Travel Tracker

A new initiative to encourage children to walk to school will start this week.  The children will record their journey on an online travel tracker called WoW (Walk Once a Week).  At the end of each month, the children who walk at least once per week will receive a badge at assembly from the JRSOs.  A letter will be sent home this week with further details.  More information at http://www.livingstreets.org.uk/walk-with-us/walk-to-school/primary-schools/travel-tracker

Focus for Celebrating Success

The November focus Golden Rule for Pupil of the Week is ‘We are Gentle’ and for ‘Worker of the Week’, the focus Curricular Area is Maths.

Primary 4/5 Teacher

Miss Tiffney will return to school this week.  She will be working a reduced timetable as part of phased return and will teach P4/5 between interval and lunchtime this week.

General Information

Parent Council Hallowe’en Disco

The annual Hallowe’en Disco organised by the Parent Council takes places on Tuesday 27th October 2015 in the school hall.  The disco for Nursery to P2 starts at 5.30pm and ends at 6.30pm.  Parents of nursery pupils must stay with their child.  The Primary 3 to Primary 7 disco starts at 5.45pm and will finish at 8pm.  All P1-P7 children must be collected by an adult.

The cost of the disco is £1.50 per pupil, which should be paid at the door.  There will be lots of games and competitions, including a ‘Best Dressed’.  Costumes should not be too scary!

Assembly

P3 and P4/5’s Ancient Egyptian assembly will take place on Friday 30th October 2015 at 9.30am  Parents/Carers and relatives of children in these classes are invited to join us from 9am for tea/coffee in the assembly hall.

After School Clubs

After school clubs begin this week and children who have been allocated a place should have received their letter on Friday.  Please remember that the Art and Craft club is £18 per child for the block, which covers the cost of the material and the tutor.

All children must be collected by an adult from the main entrance at 4.15pm.  If your child is unable to attend a week of their club, please contact the school to let us know.

The P4-7 Girls Football will not run due to low interest.

Health and Heartstart Week

The planned Health/Heartstart week will not go ahead in a fortnight as planned due to staff absence.  This will be postponed until after Christmas.

General Information

The Primary 7 children will be attending Kilbowie Outdoor Centre in Oban this week. I am sure that they will have a great time participating in all of the outward bound activities and meeting new friends from the other local schools going with them.  You can keep track of how they get on using this blog or the school Twitter page.

A new member of staff, Miss Murphy is joining the team this week as Additional Needs Assistant cover on a Tuesday/Wednesday and Auxiliary duties on a Monday and Thursday.  Welcome to the team Miss Murphy!

From October 19th, the dinner hall will be introducing a Coloured Band system to allow the children to order their lunch choice in the morning. This has been successfully been rolled out across the authority. It ensures that the children get exactly what they want for school lunch. A separate information letter will be sent home, along with the menu for next term.

The new minister from Shotts EU Congregational Church, Reverend Jonathan Abernathy-Barclay visited the school last week. (He wants the children to call him Jonathan.) We look forward to seeing him at our assembly this week.

Week Beginning Tuesday 29th September 2015

School and nursery re-open at the usual times on Tuesday 29th September 2015 following the long weekend.

From Tuesday, Breakfast Club will be open to the children from 8.15am-8.45am.  However, last entry must be 8.45am to ensure that the pupils are supervised at all times.

Due to illness, Miss Tiffney won’t be in school this week.  Mrs. Glen will be teach P4/5 on Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs. Scott on Thursday and Friday.

  • 9.00am-12.00pm:  Mrs. McCabe from the Computer Centre will be in school to work with Mrs. White and P6/7 to set up their ePortfolios.
  • 9.30am-10.30am:  Mrs. McCafferty will work with Mr O’Donnell in Primary 1/2 as part of our Nursery to Primary 1 transition programme.
