Head Teacher’s Blog – Friday 24th February 2017

Today was the final day of our Health Week and what a week’s it’s been.  Miss Tiffney and Mrs. Robert have worked so hard over the past few weeks to plan and prepare a wonderful range of Health related activities for the children in the Nursery and school.

Today, Miss Tiffney was completing Heartstart Training with pupils in P5/6 and P6/7 – some children have been completing their Level 3 Heartstart assessment associated with the British Heart Foundation.  It’s wonderful that all of our pupils know what to do if someone needs CPR or is hurt in an emergency.  I’m very grateful to Miss Tiffney for her continued commitment to this (and thanks to Calderhead High School for letting us borrow their Resusi-Anne dolls!)

The children in P1-7 also had an opportunity to take part in Circuit Training today with a coach called Graeme.  The children were put through their paces in a range of circuits that involved running, jumping, balancing and more.  The older children also took part in an Bootcamp style lesson.

All in all, it’s been a wonderful week with a wide range of health focussed lessons – I’m very grateful to the children and staff for their enthusiasim throughout the week!

Back to normal on Monday with pupils in full uniform please.  I’m not sure we’re past the worst of the weather yet so please ensure that pupils come to school with suitable outdoor footwear for all weathers and a change of dry clothes in their bag just in case.

I will be attending a Pupil Equity Fund seminar on Monday to being to think about how we will spend the money allocated to us for the Scottish Attainment Challenge.  The sum of £54,000 has been identified for Stane Primary and I am keen to spend this money to help bridge the ‘attainment gap’ and support all pupils to reach their full potential.  I will report to the Parent Council at their next meeting on Wednesday 1st March and begin the consultation process with them to gather views on how this money could be best spent.

Monday is also the first day of our four week ‘Test of Change’ for Homework.  Pupils will only be allocated Reading Homework this week.  If you have not received your copy of the Homework Test of Change instructions you can download it here.
