2nd Annual P1 Race for Life

This afternoon, our Primary 1 pupils and their parents and grandparents joined some of our staff to take part in our second annual Race for Life, in aid of Cancer Research UK.  Our P6 Sports Committee lead our children and their family members in a ‘gentle’ warm-up before they ran over 1km, starting in our school grounds and then heading off through the park in Cairnhill before turning and coming back down to the school to charge across the finish line under the watchful eye of the glorious sunshine!

Our children and guests then re-fueled with some juice and biscuits before taking to the podium to collect their hard-earned medals.

With the help of our school community, our boys and girls have helped to raise around £1250 for Cancer Research so far! Thank you so much for your incredible support.

Mr Innes would like to thank the fantastic staff team and wonderful parent helpers for helping to make this event a success.  He’d also like to thank the dedicated parents and grandparents who came along to run with the children and to cheer them on!

Most of all, everyone at Rochsolloch would like to say well done to our amazing P1 pupils! Great job boys and girls!

Humph the Camel!

Over the past couple of months, our P1-P3 children and teachers have been working round the clock to prepare a wonderful Christmas show – Humph the Camel! Having performed a dress-rehearsal for school pupils yesterday, our little stars took to the stage to put on a fantastic showcase of acting, singing and dancing for parents and friends this morning.

The show was a huge success and our children and staff are looking forward to taking to the stage again at 6.30pm tonight for their evening performance! The morning performance was wonderful, and we are so proud of our Rochsolloch family today.

Our show has been filmed this year, and DVDs can be purchased from the school, at a cost of £5.  DVDs will be ready in early January.

Our resident photographer, Mrs Cochrane, has taken these terrific snaps!

P1 Race for Life

Today we held our first ever P1 Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Our P1 children were joined by their parents and other relatives to take part in a tricky off-road 1K sponsored run.

Following a quick warm up, the children set off – amazing Mr Innes with just how fit they were! Friends and relatives had turned out to cheer them on as they left the school building and ran through the park at Cairnhill, and were waiting to raise the roof for their little superstars as they crossed the line on our football pitch at the end of the race!

After all the hard work, our pupils and their running partners were given a well-earned cup of juice before climbing the podium to receive their medals in front of their adoring public!

We would like to say a huge congratulations to the pupils, family members and staff who helped make the event a success – and to everyone who has donated to the cause. So far, we have raised over £500!

Finally – we would like to wish our Rochsolloch Rochettes good luck for the Race for Life at Glasgow Green tomorrow, with 15 female members of staff taking part to raise money for this amazing cause. If you’re at the race tomorrow, be sure to give them an extra loud cheer!

We are so proud of our Rochsolloch family!

P1E Teddy Bears’ Picnic!

On Wednesday morning, Mrs Polatajko and the children of Primary 1 Edinburgh hosted a wonderful family Teddy Bears’ Picnic!

The children sang beautifully, wrote about their bears and drew some excellent pictures. They also made some delicious jam sandwiches from instructions they had written themselves! Their guests then joined them in playing some parachute games, before they finished off their day listening to Mrs Polatajko reading ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!’

We’re not scared!!!

Great job P1E; great job Mrs Polatajko! Check out the gallery below to see the fun!

Boxing Taster Sessions

It certainly was a busy day at Rochsolloch Primary School yesterday!

We were visited by Mark McGuinness, from Ecosse Boxing Club. Martin is a former Commonwealth boxing coach, and he joined us to share some of his expertise with our children.

After speaking to the whole school at assembly, Mark took some classes for individual sessions, where he taught the children about the sport and gave them a chance to try it out.

Lights, Camel…Action!

This morning our hall was filled to the brim with parents, grandparents, relatives and friends who had all come along to see the shining stars of Primary 1 as they presented: Lights, Camel, Action!

The children presented the traditional Christmas story in a very modern way, where each group of characters from the story performed a dance to help tell their part! We saw some lovely line-dancing, some terrific tango, some beautiful ballet, fabulous funk, delightful disco and heard some spectacular singing!

Watching the children on stage is always a privilege and for our P1 pupils, it shows just how far they have come since starting school. Their speaking, singing, dancing and overall confidence was terrific to see.

The whole performance was incredible, and I’m sure everyone who was lucky enough to be in the audience would agree: FAB – U – LOUS!!!

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff who worked tirelessly to make this performance happen, and of course to the pupils of P2, P7 and the School Choir for their involvement in the show!

The performances from today and from yesterday’s dress rehearsal have been filmed and will soon be made into a DVD for our audience to relive the experience, or for those who were unable to come along on the day!

Infant Outdoor Learning

At Rochsolloch Primary School, we pride ourselves on using Outdoor Learning Experiences to encourage our pupils to develop a sense of connectedness with nature and to our local environment.

Our Nursery and P1 pupils were visited by ‘Zoo Lab’ as part of our Minibeasts transition topic, where they were able to learn about and handle a variety of creepy crawlies, including giant snails and snakes!

Our P1 classes also visited Brownsburn Local Nature Reserve, where they were taken on a guided nature walk by Jackie, our local Countryside Ranger.

Take a look at our zoo lab gallery!

Awesome Assembly!

Primary 1 Edinburgh put on an absolutely superb Assembly this morning, which was all about the Tobermory Cat.  Learning about Scottish culture is a very important part of our pupils’ learning and it was  clear that our boys and girls from P1E have learned so much from their Scottish topic.

It was quite incredible to see just how confident our young people have become, so early into their lives at school.

The children’s clear speaking, confident poetry recital and tuneful singing received rave reviews from staff, pupils and parents alike!  A 10/10 performance!

We would like to say a huge well done to Primary 1 Edinburgh, Mrs Polatajko and Miss Kay for all of their hard work in putting on this terrific showcase of the pupil’s learning!
