Spooky Cookery!

On the 31st of October, we welcomed Marie-Clare from Chefs at Schools who took some of our classes for a cookery session, making ‘Spooky Healthy Treats.’

The pupils learned all about how to prepare food safely and hygienically as they made spooky-themed fruity treats. Yum yum!

Our children are often given the opportunity to prepare food as it is so important that we help them to develop this essential life skill!

We would like to thank Marie-Clare sincerely for providing our pupils with this terrific experience and we look forward to welcoming her back into school in the near future.

P5 Morrisons Visit

On Tuesday 25th of October, Primary 5 and Mrs Munoz visited Morrisons as part of our ‘Healthy’ focus month. The children had an absolute blast as they were given a magnificent tour by members of staff.

The pupils visited numerous departments of the store, including the fishmonger, cheese counter and bakery. The children were even given the chance to scan some items through the tills!

Following the visit, P5 wrote letters of thanks to the Morissons staff with Mr Innes. From reading the letters, it was very clear that the pupils very much enjoyed their visit, learning a great deal in the process!

Learning About Sikhism

At last week’s assembly, we were very lucky to have a visit from Mr Singh and Mrs Kaur, who taught our whole school all about Sikhism, which is the world’s fifth largest religion.

The children learned about some of the main beliefs and practices of Sikhism. It is always fascinating to learn about a variety of cultures. Following the assembly, all of our P4-P7 pupils got class visits from Mr Singh and Mrs Kaur, who taught them more about the religion, answered questions, and showed off some turban wrapping skills. The children were also given the chance to try out some traditional Indian instruments.

Operation Mud Kitchen Complete!

After a great deal of hard work, we are delighted to announce that our Nursery mud kitchen is now complete!

The children can stop peering out of those windows now and can actually get out and explore…the messier the better!

We would like to offer our sincere thanks to everybody who has helped make this dream project a reality. It was a magnificent team effort and we could not be any happier with the results!

Making Progress with the Mud Kitchen!

It has been a very productive few days over at the Nursery! The sun has been kind to our parent helpers and nursery staff who have been working tirelessly on our brand new mud kitchen!

Excellent progress is being made but there are lots of jobs still to do! Thankfully, we have a wonderful team, who are toiling away with smiles on their faces!

Our boys and girls can’t help but keep peering out of the windows to see just what’s going on! With the kitchen itself arriving tomorrow, the excitement won’t let up any time soon. Let’s hope the sun doesn’t let up either!

Meet Sid and Shanarri!

Meet Sid and Shanarri!

Sid and Shanarri are puppets who regularly visit our Nursery Class. Each group’s keyworker reads a story to their group, aided by Sid and Shanarri, which helps support our monthly SHANARRI focus.

Handball Taster

Today at our School Assembly, the pupils were introduced to our new SHANARRI focus of ‘Healthy,’ which we will be looking at in detail over the coming month.

Our pupils were treated to a ‘Handball Taster Session’ NL Leisure representatives Kevin and Russell. The children were taught about the sport of handball before some lucky pupils were given the chance to have a go!

There was an excited buzz in the gymhall as the teams competed to see who could complete the most passes. Even watching was exhausting!

Curriculum Evening

Last night we held our Curriculum Evening for the 2016/17 session. In response to demand, the theme of the evening was Literacy and English.

Staff and pupils presented examples of resources and activities and were on hand to answer questions from our parents.

PowerPoint presentations used by Mrs Hill, Mrs Paterson and Miss Duncan/Mr Innes will be available to download from the website in the coming days.

We would like to thank our parents and carers very much for attending and our staff for working so hard to prepare for the evening. We would also like to thank our parents and carers for providing us with feedback from the event in order to help us improve!

Special thanks of course to our pupil volunteers, who did us all proud as always, and were the real stars of the show!

Campus Superhero

At today’s Assembly, Millie and Kyle, our School Captain and Vice-Captain, held a press conference with our very own campus superhero, Mr Leckie!

Continuing with our theme of ‘Safe’, Mr Leckie was able to tell us all about how he helps to keep our school safe for us. Each class had prepared a question for Mr Leckie. Some of the questions included:

Is it hard looking after two schools?
What do you like most about your job?
How do you scare away all the seagulls!?
Do you miss working with Mr Armstrong?

Mr Leckie explained to us how much he enjoys his job. Even though he has to work very hard, for long hours, he told us that the smiling faces of the pupils he gets to see every day makes it all worthwhile!

We think you’re a Safety Superstar Mr Leckie, thank you for coming to visit our Assembly!

Parental Engagement Survey

Fairtrade Fruity Fun in P2/3

As part of a learning journey set in Africa, P2/3 have been learning about Fairtrade produce through their ‘Handa’s Surprise’ topic. As you can see from the gallery, the pupils have been making fruit kebabs with chocolate, after learning how and where cocoa is grown.

The class also wrote to Cadbury’s to ask them about their chocolate making process.

Infant Outdoor Learning

At Rochsolloch Primary School, we pride ourselves on using Outdoor Learning Experiences to encourage our pupils to develop a sense of connectedness with nature and to our local environment.

Our Nursery and P1 pupils were visited by ‘Zoo Lab’ as part of our Minibeasts transition topic, where they were able to learn about and handle a variety of creepy crawlies, including giant snails and snakes!

Our P1 classes also visited Brownsburn Local Nature Reserve, where they were taken on a guided nature walk by Jackie, our local Countryside Ranger.

A VIP Visit!

In keeping with the theme of SAFE, Primary 1 pupils were visited by Ross, everyone’s favourite Crossing Guard! Ross explained his job to the pupils and then happily answered all of their questions!

Ross carries our such an important job in our school community and prides himself on keeping us safe as we journey to and from school.

Thanks Ross…we all think you’re awesome!
