This week in P4/5 – 2.6.25
P4/5 worked extremely hard as it was another busy week. We engaged our problem-solving skills in a jigsaw tournament. In maths, we explored probability and chance and practised our team work skills with a game of Animolypics. Our Japan topic is coming to a close but not before we look into the wonderful world of anime. We discussed its effect on Japanese culture and got creative by designing our own Pokemon. We turned our character descriptions into paragraphs in this week’s writing task. Finally, and most importantly, it was SHOW WEEK! P4/5 absolutely smashed both performances and they should be incredibly proud of themselves 🙂
Week beginning 19th May 2025
P4/5 have had a wonderful week. We enjoyed a trip to the park last Friday as a reward for earning 100 stars for our star jar! A wonderful collaborative effort of hard work and listening skills. Our creativity tested with our shoebox garden plans and we got to be fashion designers from Tokyo with our kimono designs, complete with fabric samples. P5s enjoyed some fun musical games in the hall and P4s worked with Mrs Fairfield to combine music and technology! In literacy, we practised character descriptions while watching scenes from Shrek, and of course, there’s always time for a cosy read with pals 🙂
Golden Book with Mrs H
P4/5 were amazing today! They astounded Mrs H with their Japanese knowledge, this topic sounds fantastic. Fractions was challenging but this did not put off this super bunch. They used their yeti minds and tried their best. What a super final Golden Book for Primary4/5.

5.5.25
P4/5 came back from the long weekend raring to go! We got started on planning our performance for the school show in June. Here’s a sneak peek! For our writing project, we are developing our own video games, designing and describing the setting of it. In our Japanese topic we had some fun with origami and began designing our own kimonos. Finally, the highlight of the week was the sportsmanship and enthusiasm for sports day. We had a blast and hope you did too if you managed to come along!
28.4.25
This week in P4/5 we explored the wonderful world of shapes. We calculated the area of miniature football pitches, learned about four types of triangles and stuck our toes into the fractions pond. In literacy, we continued learning about proper nouns, challenging ourselves to list a proper noun for each letter of the alphabet. While the P5s were swimming, the P4s planted sunflower seeds as we discussed the life cycle of a sunflower – updates on their growth to follow! We finished the week learning more about Japan. We can now say hello, goodbye, please and thank you in Japanese and even tried our hands at Japanese calligraphy. A busy week but our kiddos smashed it out of the park!
21.4.25
P4/5 came back swinging after the Easter holidays! We have been focussing on symmetry and shape in maths, having lots of colourful fun with patterns, letters and lego. P4s learned about the life cycle of a plant while the P5s returned to the pool. We also started our brand-new topic, learning all about Japan. This week, we learned about Japan’s four main islands and explored the cities of Tokyo and Kyoto – ask them which one was their favourite!
24.3.25
This week in P4/5 was project: assembly rehearsal! Things are really coming along. Also, the P5s continued to enjoy swimming and P4s were landscape designers, planning some ideas for how to transform our outdoor space. We also enjoyed some time exploring Mathletics, a new maths app that combines learning challenges and interactive games. One more week to go until the Easter break, let’s smash it!
17.3.25
Lots of outdoor fun this week since Spring has sprung! Wednesday saw the start of the weekly swimming block for P5. P4s decided to start an outdoor learning project while our P5 pals are off splashing around, so we spent some time outside scouting for space and inspiration. The rest of our week was spent preparing some special video content for our upcoming Easter assembly. Here are a few snapshots as a sneak peek!
10.3.25
This week, P4/5 have been having fun designing a new air filter or fans with our STEM materials to celebrate Science Week. We enjoyed some book-themed mental maths too. However, our most exciting part of the week was our school trip to the Kelpies! We went inside one of the sculptures, designed our own mythological creatures and learned all about how Andy Scott designed and built these massive Kelpies!
3.3.25
A look at P.E. and Forest School throughout the week…
Golden Book – February
Miss Robertson had the best time with this month’s Golden Book-ers. They taught her all about electricity, from circuits, to mains power, conductors – their knowledge was electric! They also shared their Scottish writing project, teaching Miss R how to write a Tanka while making sure she counted her syllables and added her Scots words. It was braw! Thank you for sharing your excellent work with me. 🙂

Home Learning
Home learning activities are available using the class Teams page should you choose to do so.
Golden Book was a delight with this wonderful group of happy learners. Thank you for teaching me all about art and playful maths! It looks so much fun to be in P4/5.
Primary 5 were buzzing sharing their learning with Mrs Hawthorn today. So many wonderful learning experiences were shared talking about Maths and Numeracy and Expressive Arts. The joy on their faces as their ability to describe in detail what has been going on in P5 was out of this world. Excellent job P5!
Miss R was delighted to spend some time with the Primary 5 Golden Book-ers! She learned some new spelling strategies, and found out about the difference between suffixes and affixes. They were also so excited to tell her about outdoor learning and all of the skills they have been using to make structures, big hotels and rivers. Amazing work! 🙂
