Busy busy!

Primary 1 had a very busy day back at school. Everyone enjoyed the Easter holidays and shared their exciting news to the class with talking Ted. I loved reading their news all about their time off. After break P1 enjoyed using analogue clocks to learn about time. We are experts at working together and reading o’clock times.

After lunch we practised our spelling outside. It was a beautiful day and we used chalk to reinforce our common words. It was lovely seeing our playground come alive with colourful learning by all of our P1 learners. Great job everyone!

As it was so nice we had an active treat to finish our day. We played on the pirate ship and climbed on the trim trail. Many learners challenged themselves to climb on parts of the trim trail that they had never been on before. We are growing and learning every day. Keep it up P1, soon you will be able to complete it all!

Easter Celebrations

Primary 4 and Primary 5 were fantastic as they performed a show with an extra special message for the school, parents, carers, family and friends. Both classes have been working extra hard and their efforts were well received by all. The staging, costumes, acting and singing were tremendous.

Here is a short clip showcasing the talents of our learners. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate on this cold but beautifully sunny day. Happy Easter!

Area Time

It has been another busy week in Ravenswood, especially when we consider the ongoing CEM testing that is taking place for P2-P7. Primary 2 had a very busy afternoon making a beautiful card for Mrs Kiernan as she left our school to work in Banton. As a special treat we worked in the area choosing different literacy, construction and play activities. What fun!

Transition Day

Our buddies were so excited to welcome through the Ravenswood Primary doors our new P1’s for session 2015-16.  A morning of fun was planned by Miss Hawthorn, Miss Purdon and Mrs Simpson that included some new additions to Ravenswood….the little chicks.

After listening to all of the interesting information and after having a closer look at the little chicks, the buddies helped their new friends to decorate their very own chick. Some well deserved play was earned by all. It was such a fantastic day for going outside and playing on our pirate ship and with our playground squad games.

It was great to see so many boys and girls attend our transition day. We hope to see you all again soon for some more fun in the sun!

Ravenswood’s Got Talent!

Well it is official! Ravenswood Primary certainly has talent. Our school talent show was bursting with class entries from the different year groups. Every entry had the audience roaring with delight. The opening and closing were choreographed by our HT (Crazy Cat Coull) and PA to the HT (Perfect Patterson). The children prepared their own routines in their own time. We had dancers, singers and cheerleaders to name a few. Thank you for supporting our school and making our children feel appreciated for the wonderful talents they share with us here each day.

Marsh Trip

Today children from P6 accompanied Miss Hawthorn to the local marsh to study the difference between our tank eco system in school and the natural pond life at the marsh. The team consisted of some very hard working children who earned their place on the excursion. Before we left we had a closer look at the tadpoles in our tank. So far all have hatched through the plasma and are actively swimming and growing each day. It was a very different story at the marsh. P6 discussed why this is the case and were surprised that the temperature, light exposure and habitat can have such a great impact on the speed of tadpole development. We missed having Carrick at the marsh to explain some of the amazing creatures that we found however we had lots of fun investigating the pond life. We even caught a toad!

We brought back a few samples to show others in the school. It was a great afternoon to be out and about enhancing our learning experiences within the community. It was also lovely to see younger pupils in our school get so enthusiastic and excited to see what we had returned with. Super job P6 for not only using your new knowledge to identify life at the marsh but also for inspiring others in our school to go and have a look.

Equivalent Fractions

It has been amazing to see P6 using many maths skills to have a better understanding of fractions. This week we have been understanding equivalent fractions. We now know how to calculate equivalent fractions successfully and how to display these in written, numerical and pictorial representations. We now understand the importance of knowing the times tables as this knowledge is vital when simplifying fractions. Keep it up P6!

Fractions

Primary 6 have working hard to understand fractions, decimals and percentages. This week we have been preparing for our first ever BIG Maths Beat That challenge! Today was the test day and the results were amazing. We enjoyed the jingles and were ready to focus and stay on task. Hopefully all learners can beat their score or time when we have our next test. Congratulations P6!

Under the microscope

Pupils in Primary 6 enjoyed another visit to Ravenswood Marsh on Friday afternoon. Carrick joined us and helped the group to identify pond life at the marsh. We noticed that the tadpoles in our class tank have developed far quicker than those at the marsh. This is because our class tank has a stable light source and constant temperature. The marsh gets very cold, especially at night, so the difference was quite extreme. We used our collecting tubs and a white tray to collect some samples to investigate further under the microscope. Thank you Carrick for letting our class borrow an amazing microscope. It is fantastic being able to get such a super view of our collections.

Wedding joy!

Primary 3 have been learning all about Christian weddings as part of their Religious, Moral and Education Studies. The class have taken a great deal of time and effort to plan a class wedding. The whole school enjoyed this celebration. The weather was great, the learning was superb and the support from parents and carers from all classes was amazing. Thank you to all involved.
