Patterns in Primary 1!

This week at school has been ‘Maths Week’ and our focus in P1 has been patterns. We started off the week by having a discussion about patterns and saying what we thoughts patterns were and what they looked like. We used super describing words – colours, shapes, wavy, straight, zig zag, spots and dotted – when talking about patterns. We went on a pattern hunt around the school taking pictures with the iPad of the various patterns we could find – there were loads!!

As the week progressed we created our own patterns using a variety of materials. We finger painted, used stickers, coloured, used cubes and lots of other items we could find around the classroom. The boys and girls were able to describe the patterns they had created.

On Thursday we iced biscuits and used jelly tots, smarties  and stars to decorate in a pattern. The children enjoyed choosing their colours and making a pattern…..they enjoyed eating them once they’d finished too!

Kacie – This has been fun in Maths this week.

Max – My pattern uses two colours, yellow, black, yellow, black.

Ciaran – My pattern is in a circle shape and has two colours.
