Orchard Primary School and Nursery Parent Council
I am delighted to let you know that following an Annual General Meeting on 4th October, our new Parent Council has been appointed. After a ballot, 20 members were selected to represent the views of you the Parent Forum and Office Bearers were chosen. The names of those selected are listed at the end of this letter. Thank you to all those who applied to join, but were unsuccessful on this occasion; if a vacancy on the Parent Council should arise, you will be contacted first to ask if you wish to join.
What does a Parent Council do?
The Parent Council is there to help the school operate as a successful school. It does this is a number of ways including:
Promoting close co-operation and communication between parents/carers and teachers;
Engaging in activities which encourage the education and welfare of the children; and
Acting as a place where parents can share ideas, interests and skills for the benefit of the school.
The Parent Council would not become involved in issues relating to individual children. These should be taken up with the class teacher or directly with our Head Teacher, Mrs Woodward, who operates an ‘open door’ policy for all parents/carers.
Our meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month. At our next meeting we will be discussing the playground facilities for the children and how best the Parent Council and parents can communicate with each other to achieve our aims.
We have already started planning activities and events to take place over the forthcoming school year and it promises to be a busy and exciting time.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support.
