As part of our Scotland and Scottish food IDL theme, we have been learning about some products that originate from our country. We have been investigating one particular company in Coatbridge who make some delicious confectionary. Lees was established in the Lanarkshire town of Coatbridge in 1931 by John Justice Lees. The Scottish favourite Macaroon bar was actually invented a bit by mistake. John had been trying to create a smooth chocolate fondant bar but it didn’t quite work out, so covered it in coconut.
Lees very kindly sent us some of their delicious Macaroon to sample and in one of our IDL sessions we also tasted some of their other products. The Tablet and Fudge were our two favourites.
