We also have an ebook collection which can be downloaded through the Library catalogue from VLeBooks.
Many ebooks require software to download and read them. The most common is Adobe Digital Editions. This is a free app that sits on your mobile or computer desktop and allows you to read ebooks.
If you need help, see Mrs Macfadyen for details.
Borrowbox from North Lanarkshire Public Libraries
Join the public library as an online member by clicking here and sign up for free, download the app to your phone, and you have access to lots of different audiobooks, ebooks and even e-magazines. Anything you’ve borrowed will vanish automatically at the end of your loan so you’ll never have overdues.
BBC Sounds
Sounds is the BBC’s catch-up audio service, which includes radio programmes, podcasts and audiobooks. All free to download to your mobile. You need to set up a free account, including a parent or guardian’s email if you’re under 13.
Podcasts are also available via other free apps including Apple Podcasts and Stitcher. Be aware that many of these sites include adverts to help pay for the service.
Open Culture
Free audiobooks to download. Most are streamed – in other words you listen through a website. Avoid anything that asks you to sign up.
Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive
These two organisations collect and digitise books and other resources that are no longer in copyright. Of course, this means the books are older, but there are many popular classics including
- The Wizard of Oz
- Anne of Green Gables
- Black Beauty
- The War of the Worlds
You can download the books to your mobile or computer.
