As members of our school community know, Mrs McCarthy was diagnosed with a brain tumour in February. Any individual who has been lucky enough to have had Mrs McCarthy as their teacher over the years will know just how inspirational she is… and she has continued to be an absolute inspiration in the way she’s faced her recent circumstances.
Inspired by her dear friend, Mrs Loose has decided to run the Glasgow Women’s 10k to raise money for Braintrust, a charity that delivers vital services to support the brain tumour community. Mrs Loose writes:
“I’m running the Glasgow Women’s 10k this year for the first time in 10 years. I’ve been inspired by my beautiful friend Julie who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour and hasn’t stopped fighting since. She’s been on an unimaginable journey these past few months but her strength and unbreakable spirit is what has made me get up off the couch and get running!! I’m running for Brainstrust, a charity that delivers vital services to support the brain tumour community. Please help me raise some money for this amazing cause.”
If any members of our school community, or friends of the school, would like to contribute to this important cause, Mrs Loose’s ‘Just Giving’ page can be accessed via the link below:
Primary 5 enjoyed a fascinating day of
learning at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on Friday 31st May. The children took an immersive, interactive journey through the story of our extraordinary planet, starting with the Big Bang. They rocketed through the universe billions of times faster than the speed of light, felt the effects of a real volcano, got closer to understanding the polar ice caps by touching an iceberg, stared in wonder at the Aurora Borealis, plunged to the dark depths of the ocean and avoided rainstorms in a tropical rainforest. Following their recent class topic on Space, the visit to Dynamic Earth’s incredible planetarium was a particular highlight for our budding Primary 5 scientists.
June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and our beautiful statue has, as always, been given pride of place on the altar outside the school office. Mr Young found these two Primary 1 pupils saying a quiet prayer to Jesus at the end of the day on Friday 31st May.
Our nursery learners had fantastic fun on Friday 31st May at their sponsored bounce. Watch this space for details of how much our bouncy superstars raised!
Our Primary 1 learners had a fantastic day together at Almond Valley in Livingston on Wednesday 29th May. The children enjoyed a tractor ride, had great fun at the play park, reached for the stars bouncing on the big green pillow, built a holiday village in the giant sand-pit and were fascinated by all the different animals they met, including llamas and giant tortoises. What an incredible end to a successful year of learning in Primary 1!

Although there are still four weeks remaining before we break for summer, we know how important it is to get diary dates out as early as possible to allow parents and carers to book time off work for various school events. Cathedral’s 2024/25 diary dates have now been confirmed and can be accessed via the link below.
These Primary 3 learners popped along to Mr Young’s office on Thursday 23rd May to show off their animations. The children had written their own story, drawn an illustration and then used ‘Chatterpix’ to bring their character to life. Very impressive!
A team of Cathedral pupils took part in the Motherwell Cup at Our Lady’s High School on Wednesday 22nd May. They played successfully throughout, only to be defeated 1-0 against St Brendan’s in the final. All players displayed excellent sportsmanship and did Cathedral proud.
Audiences were absolutely blown away with Primary 6 and 7’s production of ‘The Lion King’ on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd May. The performance was a feast for the eyes, with a stunning stage set, beautiful costumes and creative and seamless choreography which all combined to bring the characters and the story to life. Every Primary 6 and 7 pupil was involved in the production and their collective singing instilled every
possible emotion during the course of the show.
