Primary 7 learners complete Young Leaders training

As part of Come Clubbing @ Cathedral, Primary 7 pupils recently completed Young Leaders training with our resident Active Schools Co-ordinator, Fiona Russell. The Young Leader Award is a great introduction to leadership, giving young people aged eleven and over the knowledge and skills to organise and lead small games and activities that can be used as a part of club sessions. Primary 7 engaged in a three-week training programme and were awarded certificates on completion of the module.

Young leaders are now delivering daily lunch time clubs to our Primary 2 and 3 pupils. Our current lunchtime clubs are:

  • Football Skills
  • Multi Sports
  • Team building
  • Traditional playground games

Many congratulations to our Young Leaders. We wish them every success delivering sessions and inspiring our younger pupils!

2025 programme of events finalised

2025 will be very significant in the faith life of Cathedral Primary School. Not only has Pope Francis asked that 2025 be a year of Jubilee, we will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of Cathedral school and parish. How incredible to think that pupils, staff, parents and parishioners are part of a community of faith and learning stretching back fifteen decades!

Cathedral Primary School is absolutely delighted to publish the combined 150th Anniversary and Jubilee 2025 programme of events:

House Captains gather 2025 celebration ideas from parishioners

To allow us to finalise our programme of events for the combined 150th Anniversary and Jubilee 2025 celebrations, Cathedral’s House Captains gathered ideas from parishioners after each of the St Luke’s and Cathedral Sunday Masses on the 2nd and 3rd November. Many thanks to our House Captains for giving of their own time over a weekend and to parishioners for their suggestions on how we mark and celebrate such a significant year in the life of our school community. We look forward to publishing the 2025 programme of events in the coming days!

Programme of events for 150th anniversary almost finalised

As newsfeed readers will know, Cathedral school and parish will celebrate an incredible 150 years next year. Our most recent Smart School Council meetings generated some fantastic ideas to mark our special year from pupils and staff and, this weekend, House Captains will gather further ideas from parishioners after Sunday Mass.

The Smart School Council Action Board has been updated with three action points:

  • Mr Young to meet with Fr Lamb to finalise programme
  • House Captains to gather ideas from parishioners at Mass on Sunday 3rd November
  • Teachers and pupils to discuss and agree on ideas for a 2025 mini topic about the history of Cathedral school and parish

All going well, a full programme of events will be finalised and published early next week. What an exciting year it’s going to be here at Cathedral!

Primary 4 learner leads coding club

A new lunchtime coding club for Primary 3 pupils started on Wednesday 30th October. Mrs Tominey, however, was able to take a back seat as this enthusiastic, tech-savvy Primary 4 learner stepped in to lead the club and support the younger pupils with their digital activities. Very impressive, indeed, and certainly an example of developing the workforce of the future!

Learner-led learning takes on Halloween theme

Following an autumn walk in the school grounds, these Primary 2 pupils enjoyed some Halloween learner-led learning on Wednesday 30th October. The children gathered lots of branches on their walk and, once back inside, worked together to make broomsticks. Planning, designing, creating and teamwork were just four of the skills the children told Mr Young they were using.

Halloween fun descends on Cathedral

There was a SPOOK-tacularly good atmosphere in the hall on Tuesday 29th October for our Halloween discos. Costumes across all stages were absolutely fantastic and the boys and girls had a great time showing off their spooky dance moves!

Many thanks to the Fundraising Committee for organising and co-ordinating the discos, to the amazing DJ Damian, and to all those teachers who gave of their own time to come along and join in the fun.
