This week in Cathedral Nursery Class

This week, our young learners have been celebrating the nursery values of Love, Friendship, Growth and Effort. Each child has proudly earned special stickers in recognition of their achievements and has been excited to share their successes with friends and family. We have also created a vibrant celebration wall in our cloakroom, where the wonderful accomplishments of our young learners can be proudly displayed and enjoyed by everyone.

Our young learners have been strengthening their number-recognition skills and taking their first steps towards exploring subitising—the ability to recognise how many objects are in a group without needing to count them individually. Using loose parts, counters and teddy bears, they have been creating and comparing different sets, explaining what they notice and confidently sharing their mathematical thinking with others.

Storybooks continue to be a firm favourite in Cathedral Nursery Class, inspiring curiosity, imagination and a lifelong love of reading among our young learners. As Dr Seuss reminds us, “The more that you read, the more things you will know.”

Through exploring their favourite stories, our young learners have also been developing important listening and early literacy skills. They have been looking closely at words, listening carefully for the initial sound in each one and beginning to make connections between these sounds and the letters that represent them. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, curiosity and enthusiasm continue to grow.
