General Update

Hi Everyone

Hope you all have had a good week and are all keeping well and staying safe.

It has been great to see so many of you joining your classes on TEAMs . It is lovely to chat this way and to see some of the photographs and work you have been posting .

If you haven’t done this yet , please try if you can as I think the pupils will really enjoy chatting to their own teachers and hearing what their friends have been up to as well.

From Monday 18th  , Class Teachers will be posting tasks and activities on their Class Teams and using this to make regular communication with you all . They can chat , discuss work , set activities and check ups and comment on any thing you choose to share with them – completed work , photos etc.

Any problems with access to this please just email Mr Henderson or I and we will organise a suitable time to contact you to help you with this.

ht@oldmonkland.n-lanark.sch.uk

For now , we will also post new weekly activities on here-  the School Website / Blog , as we have been since the start of closure, to ensure families can still get all of the information until access issues are resolved for as many of you as possible.

If anyone requires support in terms of Internet Access or ICT equipment please get in touch if you can as we would also try to support you with this over the coming weeks.

We have been working on collating and completing your Pupil Progress Reports (School and Nursery) we intended to issue just before the Easter holidays as always . These are ready for you, but we need to print , sign and copy these . Therefore we will get these issued to you as soon as we can do that .

I very much appreciate in particular ,  pupils and families in P7 moving to Secondary and Nursery children and families due to start Primary School in August , are anxious all the activities we are missing that support a smooth transition and celebrate achievements to date. We are doing our best from home with a variety of plans that we can prioritise as soon as we have confirmation of how and when schools will reopen. I am holding off sending out information as I do not want to send out any mixed messages but please be reassured we will be in touch as soon as I have any clear information .

We will celebrate the achievements of all our Nursery Children and P.7 as soon as we can- that s a promise from us all!

As always , thank you for your kind words this week in calls , emails and now  in TEAMs too . It means the world to us and it reassures  us that you are well , safe and happy as well as learning when you can from the activities we are doing our best to provide ! Thank you families!

Have a lovely weekend

Love

Miss McFadden x

Microsoft Teams

A Reminder about Microsoft Teams –  If you have managed to access your class Teams page, please leave a message for your teacher and this will allow us to know you have managed to access the page. Please find below a user guide to allow you to access Microsoft Teams and visit your class page.

As a staff, we are constantly striving to find the best ways to communicate with and provide online learning for our pupils during this time. Going forward, we feel using Microsoft Teams as well as the school Blog is the most effective way to do this.

The first thing children would be required to do is log into GLOW and add the ‘Microsoft Teams’ tile to the Launchpad. I have attached a step by step guide below on how to do this. Our aim is to give you time to access and familiarise yourself with the use of teams prior to teaching staff using teams to provide learning for the children. Staff are intending to begin to use Teams from Monday 18th May.

In Microsoft Teams, I have created a team for each class. This will give pupils a safe place to communicate with each other as well as their teacher. The children will also be able to post pictures, complete activities set by their teacher and upload finished work. Staff will also create quizzes and assignments on Teams for the children to complete.

If you have any questions about accessing Microsoft Teams then please email me and I will be happy to help.

P7 15/5/20

Good morning P7!

Well done of those of you who have made it on to Teams. We would love to see as many of you there as possible! If you are having problems getting set up, please let me or Mr Henderson know.

Sumdog Contest

There is a North Lanarkshire Sumdog contest starting today and I have added our class. It is available now until 8pm on May 21st. Feel free to play any time! Would be great to get as many involved as possible.

It’s Friday, so it is important to make time for Golden Time. What will you do for your Golden Time today? I managed to get hold of some gluten free self raising flour so I may make some tasty pancakes!

Have a great weekend, thinking of you all.

Primary 3/4 – 15.5.20

Happy Friday Primary 3/4! 🙂

Another week of home learning is complete! Give yourselves a big pat on the back for your effort with your home learning tasks this week – I know it is not always easy to complete them all of the time! Remember on Monday 18th May we are moving over to Microsoft Teams to continue learning from home. If you have not set this up yet please scroll down to Mr Henderson’s post where you will find information on how to do this. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Sumdog

Well done to everyone who took part in our Sumdog competitions and challenges this week! Brilliant effort all around! This week for the Fractions competition I split you into your Maths groups so it would be a team effort! Well done to the Circles who came first! The winner of the Spelling challenge this week was Enya – fantastic work, well done 🙂 Your next challenge is a pretty big one……it is a North Lanarkshire Sumdog Competition. That means you will be competing with lots of different schools in the area. If you answer 100 questions you win an item for your house on Sumdog. We need 10 children from the class to take part so we can get a spot on the leaderboard so please try to compete when you can and if you can let others in the class know about it that would be great! The competition starts today 15th of May and ends at 8pm on the 21st of May which is next Thursday. I have also set you a Spelling challenge which starts on Monday too. Good luck everyone!

Treasure Hunt

As it is a Friday please remember to have some ‘Golden Time’ today. I found this Treasure Hunt that you might like to do as part of your Golden Time or over the next few days with your families. If you do try it out please let me know how you got on by posting a comment. Here is the Treasure Hunt below:

Have a nice day and a great weekend!

Primary 2/3

Happy Friday boys and girls!
I hope you have had another enjoyable week at home and have been busy learning and playing. I have loved hearing from so many of you on Teams. Even Miss Grant and Miss McFadden have joined in our Team so they can hear what you have all been up to as well. As it is Friday, here is a link to one of my favourite Go Noodle songs (Miss Bennett can often be heard singing this song very badly in her kitchen). I know it features some ‘Fortnite’ moves which we liked to do in class.

Sum Dog Class Challenges
Our current Sum Dog challenges are available until Sunday morning and it is super close at the top of the leader boards. Like last week we have lots of boys and girls with well over 200 correct answers! I’ve been so pleased, I’ve even given out some Sum Dog coins to pupils who I can see are logging in regularly and are answering lots of questions.
I will be announcing the winners in my post on Monday morning, so look out to see if you have made it to the top this week. As it is Friday, I have also opened the house for you.

Sum Dog Maths Council Contest
I have added our class to a North Lanarkshire Sum Dog Contest. It starts today and is available from 8am till 8pm on May 21st. You are able to play at any time. For us to appear on the leader board, at least 10 people from our class need to take part. Good luck to you all.
This will be our Maths challenge for next week, I’ll still create class challenges for Spelling and Grammar.

Teams
Another wee reminder about Microsoft teams, lots of our class have now been able to log in and access our class Team. If you’re just logging in now, please leave a wee ‘hello’ so I can see you’ve logged in. So far we’ve been able to chat and share some pictures. If you require any assistance please let us know and we’ll get you sorted as soon as we can so you are able to use Teams from our launch day Monday 18th May! I have already posted previous learning grids, associated worksheets and each Spelling groups’ sounds and common words to our files for you to access. Starting Monday you can find your new learning grids and activities on Teams as well as on the school website. You will also be able to ask questions, send me any work you wish me to see and take part in quizzes.

Take care everyone, have a lovely weekend!

Miss Bennett xx

Primary 5/6

Hello boys and girls,

How was your week? I hope you all had a lovely week. The wind has been a little chilly! I have been putting Archie back into a jacket instead of a cardigan for our walks.

Well done to the boys and girls who managed to access Microsoft Teams this week! I have thoroughly enjoyed speaking to some of you. Remember Microsoft Teams will be up and running from Monday. It would be great if you haven’t already trying to log in and familiarising yourself with where files are and how to create a message.

Super job to those who have been on Sumdog! I can see you all tried very hard. A big well done to this weeks Time Challenge winners – Kara and Ethan and our Grammar Competition winner – Leah. There will be new tasks on Sumdog from Monday. Remember the house is open today if you would like to spend some of your coins.

Have a great weekend,

Miss Jones x
