WHERE EVERY CHILD IS SPECIAL

Behaviour

Happy Houses

At O.M.P.S, all pupils are part of a House – Burns, Baird, Fleming and Mackintosh ( Famous Scots). Throughout the school week, pupils have the opportunity to collect house counters from all members of staff. Teaching staff can also award Star counters for exceptional instances or purple counters if negative behaviour has occurred that the pupil has not tried to ‘turn around’. This initiative runs in line with our “Watch Your Step” ladder. Each week our Happy House captains carry out a house count and the winning house receives an extra play that week.

Watch Your Step
As well as promoting positive behaviour through the use of house counters, we also try to give children the opportunity to ‘turn around’ negative behaviour by following our Watch Your Step ladder. This ladder consists of 6 steps;

-Verbal Warning
-Warning Card
-Timeout
-Purple Counter / Visit to Miss McFadden
-Phone call home to Parent / Guardian
-Loss of Golden

This ladder, is displayed in every classroom in our school in order to allow pupils to visually recognise how they can turn negative behaviour into a positive situation by starting at the top of the ladder and not progressing through the steps mentioned above.

At the beginning of the year, we have a Happy House launch where every pupil receives a badge with their house colour and a Happy House information booklet for Parents / Guardians.
