Primary 4/5 – 3.6.20
Good Morning boys and girls 😊
I hope everyone is having a good week. I am super impressed with everyone’s hard work so far.
Some of you may have seen Miss Jones post on Monday about World Environment Day, which is on Friday 5th June.
Our first topic in class was Plastic Pollution and I know how much we all loved this topic. We learned how important it is to look after our environment and the importance of recycling. Miss Jones posted some suggested activities for us to carry out to take part.
I have found some instructions on how to make your own bird feeder, by using a plastic bottle!
Let me know if anyone has a go. I would love to see them!

School Recovery Update
I appreciate many of you will be anxious to know more detail about school re-opening. This week Management Teams are in school to begin to prepare and organise the school for staff return from Monday 8th June.
As we gain further advice and as staff return we will be in touch as soon as possible with any plans for new P.1 and P.7 Transition visits or activities.
We are aware that there is some information on Scot Crest Facebook Page with regard to uniforms and how to order for August. However, advice from both Coatbridge HS and ourselves is not to worry about uniform for June for any pupils who may be invited to attend.

World Environment Day
Hello boys and girls,
This week we are going to focus on Article 24 – the right to a safe environment. We are going to focus on the environment and plastic pollution because on Friday it is World Environment Day.
World Environment Day (WED) is an international day of environmental awareness and action that happens on the 5th of June each year.
This started in 1974 by the United Nations, each year WED is hosted by a different country, with events focusing on a central theme. This year it was being held in Colombia, with Biodiversity as the central theme.
Biodiversity refers to the variety of life. It is seen in the number of species in an ecosystem or on the entire Earth. Biodiversity gets used as a measure of the health of biological systems, and to see if there is a danger that too many species become extinct.
This day is meant to allow people highlight how they take care of the Earth. Here are some suggestions for fun, biodiversity supporting World Environment Day activities:
- Walk or ride your bike
- Plant seeds or flowers
- Recycle materials such as plastic bottles, tins or paper
- Research an Endangered Animal
- Research information on Rainforests
- Research information on Coral Reefs
- Make a bird feeder
I found a great eBook called The Cautious Caterpillar suitable for Primary 1-3.
The Cautious Caterpillar Story
For Primary 4-7 I found an interesting PowerPoint and Fact Files on animals from the Rainforest.
You may also want to try these recycling activities.
16 things to make and do with your recycling
I hope you enjoy this weeks focus,

Primary 5/6 – 1st June
Good Morning boys and girls,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend! The weather was glorious. Did you enjoy playing in the sun? Archie certainly enjoyed cooling down in his paddling pool. We enjoyed lots of ice lollies while Archie had frozen yoghurt to cool us down. We also entered phase one of coming out of lockdown on Friday. Did any of you get to see some of your family again at a social distance? Over the weekend, Archie got to see his Gran and his Nana and Papa. He was super excited to see them and show off his great walking. Miss Millar posted this great guide highlighting the changes for phase one from NLC Communication Friendly.
Here are this week’s home learning tasks.
Capital Letter Spelling – Suffix ance and ence
Capital Letter Spelling 1.06.20
Full Stop Spelling – Spelling Rule ‘Qu’
Commas Spelling – Spelling Rule ‘Qu’
Question Mark – Phoneme ‘oi’
Question Mark Spelling 1.06.20
Question Mark Phoneme Story ‘oi’
You can also try to think of a cool spelling of your own or try spelling them out with daisies or stones or pasta.
Well done to those of you who have completed the Epic Reading Task on your Home Learning Grid. I have created tasks for the next part of the book. Have you enjoyed having a book to read? Remember you can pick different books to read too. You could maybe do a ten minute silent read like what we did in class after our lunch.
On Sumdog, I have set Probability Practise for Maths and for Grammar you have an Adjective Challenge. Well done to those who participated in your Time Check Up last week! You will find a reward when you next log in.
Your Microsoft Quiz is focussing on Plastic Pollution. This Friday is World Environment Day which encourages awareness and action for protecting our environment. Here is a Newsround article to help you with the quiz: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/42810179
These tasks will also be in Microsoft Teams. If you haven’t used Microsoft Teams yet please try your best to get logged in as you are able to message me if you need any support. It is great seeing all of your hard work and catching up with you.
I miss your smiling faces,

Good Morning boys and girls 🙂
Can you believe it is June already?? I feel that the weeks are starting to go by very quickly! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some of this lovely weather. I enjoyed sunbathing in my garden, reading outside, going for long walks and having dinner in my garden 🙂 What did you all get up to? Here is a picture of one of my walks that I went!
Sumdog
Big well done to everyone for their efforts on Sumdog last week and to the winners of the challenges. You are all superstars! You have another mini assessment on Times tables and Division this week on Sumdog. There are 20 questions so please take your time to answer them as best you can! You also have a new Spelling challenge which starts today and ends on Friday morning. Good Luck 🙂
Spelling
Here are this weeks Spelling words below. Remember you can choose any activity you like to practise them. Maybe some of you would like to try and find ways to practise them outside this week in the nice weather??
Oxford Owl
I have listed some suggestions of books that you might like to read this week. Remember to look for your reading group! Some of the groups have non-fiction books this week. Remember non-fiction books are books with lots of facts in them they are not a story. Aaron also found a series of books last week that he really enjoyed called Project X Alien Adventures. Maybe you could try and search for some books in that series too! Here are this weeks suggestions:
Blue Group – Here comes Trouble!
Red Group – Sport then and now
Orange Group – Dinosaur Safari
Green Group – The Play Park
Have a nice day boys and girls, remember to enjoy the sunshine too! I hope to hear from some of you soon 🙂 Missing you all very much.
