Members of Parent Councils, on a voluntary basis, may also have an advisory role in decisions on placing requests by parents in respect of those situations where the number of placing requests for a particular school or for a particular stage in a particular school exceeds the number of places available.
A Parent Council has been established at Mossend Primary. The head teacher sends out an annual letter, at the start of the school session, requesting parent nominations. No more than ten parents will form the Mossend Parent Council, with a member of the school staff. The Head Teacher is professional advisor to the Parent Council. Two members of the community can be co-opted onto the Council.
