Interim Report Cards – October 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

Interim report cards will be available from 9am on Friday morning (30th October 2020) for parent and child to view.
As advised previously, these will be published on the child’s digital notebook in their Microsoft Team. We would encourage you to read it with your child.

We ran an evening parent/carer session last week to demonstrate this, but if you missed we have put together a collection of videos and guides on this link: https://wke.lt/w/s/SJ2Uq6.
You will need to download Microsoft Teams/OneNote to be able to view the report card.

To log in to Microsoft Teams, your child will need their Glow login details. These were issued at the beginning of the session, but if they have been forgotten or need reset then your child should simply ask their teacher before Friday, who will be able to reset this quickly for them.  There is no need to email or call the school office, as the class teacher can resolve this.

Many thanks,
Team Mossend.

Letter from NLC – Lunches

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you may know the council took the decision on 24 February 2020 to incorporate “full cost
recovery for school meals”. The school meal service is subsidised by the council and due to
extreme financial pressures can no longer sustain this level of costs.

When COVID hit in March 2020 the service postponed the increase which should have happened
on the 1April 2020. The price increase will now be applicable from 26 October and the new price
of a 2 course primary school meal will be £3.00 and the price of a secondary school 2 course
meal will be £3.05. A 3% annual inflationary rise will be incorporated thereafter.

The new school meal price still represents value for money and cannot be compared to the
previous subsided price. Both the Primary and the Secondary meal price includes a two course
lunch. In a primary school the choice is soup and main course plus water or milk or a main course
and sweet treat plus water or milk. Also to reassure parents/carers that the school meal service
has worked hard to provide a safe working environment and staff are working to COVID 19
protocols.

Your child may be entitled to free school meal and essential clothing grant. You can check your
benefits and how your application is processed via the council’s website at
https://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=5452

ALL Primary 1 to Primary 3 pupils are automatically entitled to receive a free school meal but
must be included in your application form.

You can also download the Free School Meals & Clothing Grant application form from the
website details above.

If your application for Free School Meals is accepted then the school will be notified
immediately.

If you require further information on Free School Meals application please contact:

Letter from NLC – Lunchtime Crossing Patrol

Dear Parent/Carer

As part of the council’s budget-setting process for 2020/21, it was decided to remove the
lunchtime school crossing patrol service at all primary schools.

The decision was based on the fact that the number of children using the school crossing patrol
service at lunchtime has decreased significantly over recent years. In addition, all children in
primaries 1-3 are entitled to a free school meal and many parents/carers take up this option. It
has also become the council’s practice to remove the lunchtime patrol when vacancies occur and
it is evident they are no longer required.

The last day of the lunchtime crossing patrol service will be Friday 30 October.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Hunter
Acting Head Teacher

Mr Reid’s Mindset Matters – Week 3

Hello boys and girls,

Well done to everyone who submitted an entry last week, I was so impressed.

I had over 40 entries that I could not choose from!  As I told you during assembly, I have put all the names into a random draw online and it picks a winner for me, but everyone who enters receives a Dojo Point 🙂

This week I thought I would give you an active challenge since it is the holidays.

Can you climb a tree?
Learn a new game?
Play a new sport?
Beat a personal best?

Give yourself an active challenge and remember to be like Astrid – Brave! Don’t be afraid to get it wrong or not win, learn from it and try again!

You can share your pictures/videos of your challenge on your class team (remember to tag me @MrReid) or on Twitter @MossendPS.

Have a great holiday and I look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday,

Mr Reid

Weekly Update 8 – 29th September 2020

Important Information

Dear Parent/Carer,

The update to you this week provides important information for the safe drop off and pick up of children, effective from Tuesday 29th September 2020.  Children have changed zones to allow them the benefit of experiencing other areas of the playground and we have tried to ensure that neighbouring zones have the same stage of the children to allow a safe social interaction at break times.

To make it easier for families, the drop and go and pick up arrangements have been split into 4 colours and these are marked on the ground within the playground. Children will still be kept in separate zones within these areas, but still will be on hand to advise them exactly where to line up. Please note that this was rehearsed on Wednesday with the children, but due to updated guidance, some of the areas have been changed. You can be assured that this is the correct information and if you can discuss with your child in advance of Tuesday that would ensure a safe and easy return for all.

An interactive map of the playground and zones has been produced and you can view this here: https://www.thinglink.com/video/1364977307361476613

We would encourage you to take time over the September break to go over this with your child and the arrangements that are in place to keep everyone safe.

Have a relaxing September break,
Team Mossend

September Newsletter

Dear Parent/Carer,

We have had a busy start to the year at Mossend Primary School, but all of the children have settled back into the routines of school life and have adjusted remarkably well to the new ways of working, moving around the school and playground zones. They are a credit to you.

Covid-19 presents additional challenges to schools on reporting to parents/carers, previously we would have invited all our families into the building around September time to ‘Meet the Teacher’, visit the classroom and see some of the learning that had already taken place. With the current restrictions in place this was not possible, however we are pleased to provide you with a class newsletter detailing this information and as always if you wish to discuss anything with your child’s teacher then please do not hesitate to contact the school on the details provided within the newsletter. You can view the September newsletter by clicking on the link below.

We hope all our families have a restful, safe and well earned September break and we would look forward to welcoming back the children on Tuesday 29th September.

Kind Regards,
Team Mossend
