What is Assessment?
Assessment is an important part of learning and teaching. It helps to provide a picture of a child’s or young person’s progress and achievement and to identify next steps in learning. Our assessment approaches promote learner engagement and ensure appropriate support so that all learners can achieve their goals and reach their potential. Pupils have PLP (Personal Learning Plan) that is written and developed over the course of the year. This is discussed with pupils and shared with parents.

As with all aspects of CFE assessment we aim to ensure our pupils are engaged in all aspects of assessment processes and be given an element of choice in showing that they have achieved.

As our pupils move through the curriculum, they will experience a range of approaches to assessment. From the pupil’s point of view assessment will begin in nursery by focusing on personal development and feedback with experiences build around the developing child while in addition at the later phases pupils will experience assessment practices which will lead to qualifications.

ASSESSMENT & REPORTING
Teachers are assessing children’s progress continually, both informally and formally at regular intervals.  Graded reading books help teachers with assessment.
Opportunities for more formal discussion on the children’s progress are arranged on Parents’ consultation evenings in November and March and June.  Opportunities for informal parental evenings are arranged throughout the school year by contacting the school office.
