Mrs N’s Notes, 2.12.22

Week 1 Menus for the week ahead in both school and nursery:

We have a number of pupils in school who are running up a bill in the dinner hall.  We will never let a child go hungry, but funds should be added to a child’s lunch card BEFORE they eat.  Please check your child’s account regularly to ensure they have enough money available to last the week. Remember you can set up automatic regular payments, if you find that easier to manage.

All Christmas Lunch order forms should have been returned by today.  If you have forgotten to send this in, please ask your child to hand it in early on Monday morning and we’ll add it to our numbers then.

STEM OPEN AFTERNOON

Many thanks to everyone who came along to our P.2-7 open-session on Wednesday.  It was quite emotional to see so many members of our school community all together again; sharing learning, laughing together and tackling practical challenges cooperatively.  Click the link below to see some photographs of our day:

CHRISTMAS CAROL CONCERT

Tickets are now on sale for our Christmas Carol Concert.  Please remember that tickets are limited to TWO PER FAMILY at this time.  As detailed on your order form/information letter, once every family has had the opportunity to purchase 2, we will release all remaining tickets for general sale on 14th Dec.  This has always been our practice and we find this is the fairest way to ensure everyone gets the chance to see their child perform.

P.7 STRATHCLYDE PARK TRIP

Our P.7 pupils are looking forward to a week of outdoor learning next week.  Mr Gall and his crew can’t wait to get involved in all the activities that are planned from Monday to Friday.  All information has already been sent home, but the one thing you can’t forget is… BE ON TIME EACH MORNING NEXT WEEK!  We will aim to leave as soon as the bus arrives each day.

NURSERY FESTIVE TRIPS

Our Nursery trips take place over the next few weeks, with small groups of pupils experiencing the fun Christmas activities at Summerlee.  Many thanks to all our nursery staff and parent helpers for making this possible.

CHRISTMAS JUMPERS/CHRISTMAS HAMPERS

Please remember that we will celebrate Christmas Jumper Day next Thursday (8th Dec) by asking for a donation towards our Parent Council Christmas Hamper Raffle.  All pupils (and staff) are invited to wear a touch of tinsel or a festive outfit on that day.  As always, any child who would rather come in their uniform is always free to do that.  We know some children do not like a change to their routine.  The Parent Council sent out the letter telling you about the hamper some weeks ago, so just in case you have misplaced it, you can download another copy below:

FURTHER TEACHERS’ STRIKES

As you may be aware, two of the teacher unions, the Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association (SSTA) and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT), intend to carry out industrial action over the national pay offer and their members plan to strike on Wednesday 7 December 2022.

Kirkshaws Primary School and Nursery Class will not be affected by this industrial action.  We will be open as usual on this date.
