Mrs N’s Notes ~ 2.11.18

What a busy week, yet again.  The pupils, from our youngest in nursery, right through to P.7, have been so excited with the thrill of Hallowe’en and the anticipation of Bonfire Night still to come.

The week kicked off with our P.7 pupils’ enterprise project, raising funds for our Kilbowie trip.  Many thanks to everyone who supported this venture; your help is much appreciated.

Parents have played a huge roll this week.  The Hub Club continues to meet each Monday with Martin Bell, our CLD worker. Martin is working closely with any families who drop in on a Monday afternoon, with games and activities to develop literacy skills.  We have now stopped the Tuesday morning session as there was no call for this.  Of course, remember the Library is available to any families who wish to pop in before or after school any day.  Take time to read together, or borrow books to take home.  I am delighted that some families are making use of this great resource regularly.

Family supporters also make a huge difference to our football team.  This week we were proud of a 4-4 draw.  The pupils worked hard on the pitch, showing determination and sportsmanship throughout a tough game.  Many thanks to all the families who came along to support us and keep us motivated.

Then there was our Fundraisers’ Disco.  Every child in our school and nursery was given the chance to join in the fun. All children who attended chose to dress up and had a ball!  Many thanks to everyone who decorated the hall, made and sold the tickets, bought the snacks and tuck shop, organised the entertainment, supervised on the night…the list of tasks goes on and on!  If you would like to be involved in this vital work, you can contact the Fundraisers via the school office at any time. All help gratefully received!  Their Christmas Fête is just around the corner, so many hands will make light work.

Ms Ralston also started her new parent groups this week.  Over the coming weeks she plans to run these sessions on different days each week, to accommodate as many parents as possible.  If you have a child on our nursery, ask for more information – the more the merrier.

We also value the support of parents in very specific roles.  We have a group of parents and ex-parents who help make resources for classes each week.  These ladies are wizards with a pair of scissors and a laminating pouch! We are also indebted to Mr Roe who shares his time and expertise volunteering in school both through the day and leading our Archery Clubs.  If you have skills you would like to share, please let us know.  We are always keen to develop our partnerships more.

Then there is the parental partnership that go on behind the scenes…the nightly homework, the commitment to turning your children out in school uniform daily, the effort you put into school events such as our Fancy Dress Parade.  Thank you for all of that – it does not go unnoticed!

I finished the week off in a slightly different way this week.  I hosted a little ‘Tea with the HT’ event with some superstars from P.2.  What a treat to show these pupils how much their efforts in school are valued. Kirkshaws partnerships take so may different forms, but one thing is for sure – this is not a ‘one man show’ – Kirkshaws is all about team work!
