Mrs N’s Notes, 23rd – 27th October 2017

What did you do at school today?”  The question most parents ask at 3pm.  And the usual answer – “Nothing much!

Well here’s just a sample of the ‘nothing much’ that went on in Kirkshaws this week…

On Monday our P.5-7 Enterprise kicked off with a bang, straight after our October holiday week.  Matt Stewart from Entrepreneur Me couldn’t congratulate our young people enough.  He was most impressed by their listening skills, their team work and dedication to the project.  Thanks again to all the parents who came along to join in with the learning.  The project will continue over the coming months with classwork and further enterprise activities.

Tuesday was pretty busy too, with the the school photographer in taking individual and family shots.  But that wasn’t all!  The Nursery Open Sessions allowed parents the chance to come in and visit their child working with their Key Worker in their groups.  The children all looked delighted to show off their learning. Smiles all round!

Wednesday saw three Primary 6 pupils take third place at the Coatbridge High School Public Speaking Contest, while our Nursery boys and girls took part in a Sponsored Walk to raise funds.

A Football festival, two lively Assemblies, Nursery Parent Workshops, Hallowe’en assault courses, Kodaly Music, auditions for the School Choir, numerous after-school clubs and the Fundraisers Bingo Night saw us through to the end of the week!  Phew!

As well as all of that, we have had some teachers on training courses, ensuring we are up to speed on all the latest teaching techniques and resources on offer.  I also had the privilege of spending some time teaching in Room 1.  I plan to make time to do the same in Room 2 next week, making sure I get to know all our Primary 1 pupils better.  I have also enjoyed reading Daily Writing jotters this week, and meeting with groups of pupils to discuss their learning in literacy.  I will continue with this next week; getting the full picture of excellence in reading from P.1 through to P.7.

In addition to that I have also had meetings this week looking at improvements to the physical environment of the school: sink units, carpets, our boiler, the gardens and fencing are all on the cards to be replaced or upgraded over coming months…look out for a ‘face-lift’ by the Spring!

Now, what exciting adventures will next week bring…?  I can’t wait to find out.
