OUR WEEK IN PICTURES!
REPORTING
All pupils in the school brought their written reports home this week. If, for any reason, you did not receive this, please contact the school office and we will look into this for you. Thank you for those feedback sheets that have been sent back already.
NURSERY PARENTAL CONSULTATION MEETING
We look forward to welcoming some of our nursery parents in to work with us on Friday of next week. As we review and further develop our Outdoor Learning policy and practice, we value your input.
SCHOOL OPEN AFTERNOON
Thursday 23rd March is the next day we open our doors to welcome our families in to join in the learning in school. This time there will be a Health & Wellbeing focus. As always, come prepared to join in the learning with your child. Please enter via the main entrance any time after 1.45pm. If you have more than one classroom to visit, you can split the hour up to suit yourself. At 2.45pm a bell will ring and we will ask all adults to leave the building, giving you time to go around to your normal collection points. Please do not attempt to take your child from class earlier than 3pm as this becomes unmanageable to monitor from a safety point of view. Thank you.
P.7 FAMILIES TO CHS
All P.7 pupils are invited to Coatbridge High School later on Thursday afternoon along with their families. This small-group visit will allow you to explore the High School once again and have all your questions answered. The visit begins at 4.00pm.
PARENT COUNCIL MEETING
Our next Parent Council Meeting will take place on Monday 27th March at 7pm. This will be a virtual meeting held via WebEx. If you have a child at Kirkshaws, you are a member of the Parent Forum. That means you are welcome to attend all Parent Council Meetings. If you would like to attend, please contact the school office with your email address and you will be sent an invitation to join.
SCHOOL TRANSPORT CONSULTATION
Across North Lanarkshire there are proposed changes to the provision of school transport. This means that the qualifying distance criteria for pupils requiring home-to-school transport (currently one mile for primary and two miles for secondary) will be changed in line with the majority of local authorities in Scotland. 27 of the 32 councils in Scotland have higher mileage limits than North Lanarkshire Council.
Under the change, transport will be provided for:
- Any primary pupil who lives more than two miles from their catchment school by the nearest acceptable walking route will be eligible for school transport.
- Any secondary pupil who lives more than three miles from their catchment school by the nearest acceptable walking route will be eligible for school transport.
This change will affect a number of pupils and the council has a legal obligation to consult on this type of change. It is also important that we hear the views of parents/carers, pupils and other interested parties such as Education Scotland through a consultation so that informed decisions can be made.
The consultation will take place between 27 February 2023 and 28 April 2023 and you can respond by completing the online survey that you will find on the council website by clicking here.
Please take time to read all the information on the council website as this will affect many of our pupils when they move to high school.
CORONATION BANK HOLIDAY
Please note, that all NLC schools and nurseries will be closed on Monday 8th May for the Coronation Bank Holiday.
EASTER PLANNING
School will close for two weeks at 2.30pm on Friday 31st March for our Easter holiday. Any parents who wish to pick Nursery pupils up a few minutes earlier to avoid a long wait can speak to key workers and arrange this.
We intend to hold our Easter Parade on the afternoon of 31st March. Details of our Easter competitions were emailed home today. If you missed this, you can download another copy below.
Also, remember that P.7 are currently collecting for their Bring & Buy Sale. All donations of good quality toys are most welcome!
