Mrs N’s Notes, 28.1.22

Week 1 menus coming up in the week ahead…

Remember, all pupils from P.1 – P.5 automatically now receive a free breakfast and lunch from the universal meals offer that applies across Scotland.  Any pupils in P.6 & 7 who pay for their meals should ensure they have ample funds on their lunch cards BEFORE they order food.

CHILD PROTECTION

Please remember that I am the Child Protection Officer for the school and nursery.  If you have any concerns you can reach me through the school office:

Mrs Alison Nicolson – 01236 632054

In my absence, Mr Sharp and Mrs McGarry (Principal Teachers) will carry out this role.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Please remember that it is North Lanarkshire and school policy  that jewellery worn in school should be kept to a minimum.  This is especially true for earrings.  Dangling or hooped earrings should not be worn in school to avoid unnecessary injury.  A stud, worn in the lobe of the ear is fine under normal circumstances, but should be covered or removed for PE.

When we returned to the school building, after the first Lockdown, we asked pupils to leave personal toys at home.  This request has never changed.  We are seeing a few toys starting to sneak back into school bags again.  Please remind your child that this rule remains in place for everyone.  We are happy for children to bring their own pencil cases and essential items, but nothing else at this time.

If anyone in your household is suffering from COVID-19 symptoms, please follow national advice and isolate or arrange testing as required.  Please call the school office if you need advice regarding who in your household should be isolating and for how long.

HEALTHY EATING

We would continue to ask that pupils bring water to school to drink in class time.  In most situations, this can be kept on your child’s desk. Diluting juice can be enjoyed at break times.  Fizzy juice should be kept as a treat for home.  As a Health Promoting School we will continue to reinforce this message in school and ask for your cooperation in this.

PARKING

As always, I would like to thank everyone who continues to park legally and safely in our local community.  This week we had a special plea from the residents of St James’ Way.  They have found that some people are parking on the pavement, which is making access for some residents impossible.  Please keep in mind those with limited mobility who need the full width of a pavement to access their homes.  Thank you.

INTER-HOUSE ACTIVITIES

Our House Captains are hard at work, with Mr Sharp, organising our next inter-house competition.  This time it is a Maths Quiz, that we will hold over Microsoft Teams, to ensure we can all enjoy it together.

Since returning to school after Christmas we have not been allowed to meet together for an in-person assembly, but we are skilled at meeting on Teams now, so assemblies have not stopped (just changed a wee bit).  We still welcome entries in the Gold Book that we can celebrate together each Friday.

HOLIDAY REMINDER

Remember school and nursery are closed on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th February for the mid-term holiday and again on Wednesday 16th February for an in-service training day for staff.  Pop it in your diary!

I hope you have a relaxing weekend and I look forward to welcoming everyone back to Breakfast Club, Nursery and School on Monday morning!
