Mrs N’s Notes, 8 Nov 2020

Last week was another busy one for us all at Kirkshaws.  Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night brought many opportunities for learning and also lots of excitement about activities going on at home.  At Assembly on Friday it was most encouraging to hear so many of our pupils able and willing to share the safety messages they have been learning in class.   Thanks particularly to Room 16 and Room 1 who confidently told the whole school how to behave around fireworks.  Well done!

POPPIES went on sale last week.  As indicated in an app message sent out through the week, many safety measures have been put in place to ensure we are adhering to all relevant COVID restrictions to avoid spreading infection.  Class teachers will continue to sell Poppies in the coming days until our stock runs out.  We hope to be able to tell you how much we have raised for the Scottish Poppy Appeal next week.  Many thanks to Room 4 for sharing their paintings of Flanders Fields above.  They are stunning!

Please return any READING BOOKS you have at home.  In some classes we are struggling to provide full sets of books as they are not coming back into school regularly.  If you have any books lying around since last year, we’d love to see these too.  They will be quarantined safely in school before being used again.  The same applies to Infant STORY BAGS or NURSERY GRADUATION GOWNS from last session.  Please ask your child to hand any school resources into their teacher.

As the pandemic continues we must not let down our guard around safety measures.  In fact, some procedures have been tightened up in order to ensure all members of our school community are kept safe:

  • ANY PARENTS OR CARERS DROPPING OFF OR COLLECTING PUPILS MUST ADHERE TO 2M DISTANCING AND WEAR A FACE-COVERING IF THEY ARE ABLE – this is new guidance issued by the Scottish Government
  • PARENTS SHOULD MOVE AWAY FROM THE DOOR/GATE/COLLECTION AREA AS SOON AS THEY CAN TO ALLOW ALL FAMILIES TO PHYSICALLY DISTANCE
  • ALL CHILDREN SHOULD CONTINUE TO ACCESS THE SCHOOL BUILDING USING THEIR ZONED GATE AND DOOR. THE MAIN ENTRANCE SHOULD ONLY BE USED IN EMERGENCY CIRCUMSTANCES
  • NO VISITORS SHOULD COME TO THE SCHOOL WITHOUT A PRIOR APPOINTMENT.  Most appointments will be held by telephone at this time.

Thank you all for your continued support throughout these unprecedented times.  We could not do it without Teamwork!

Please note that our Nursery Menu is slightly different to that in the school – see Week 1 below:
