Mrs N’s Notes ~ 18.1.19

What a super week I have had, enrolling our new intake for August.  It has been a pleasure meeting with families we already know, to welcome a younger sibling to our school and also extending our relationship with nursery parents, as we move together to the next stage of learning.  But it has also been exciting meeting new families who are choosing to continue their educational journey here, at Kirkshaws.  WELCOME to you all.

If you know of anyone who missed enrolment this week, could you ask them to contact the school office as soon as possible.  Thank you.

What I am being told this week is that visitors feel a warmth and a positive atmosphere when they come into Kirkshaws.  This is something I have always felt in our school, but it is encouraging to hear others comment on it too.  Calls of, ‘thank you’ and ‘can I help’ are heard regularly as you move around the building.  Pupils and staff work together to help each other and solve everyday problems as a team, putting our core values of RESPECT and FRIENDSHIP into action.

Another striking feature of the week has been the enthusiasm for all things Scottish.  We have another week to go until our Scottish poetry competitions, and I don’t know how the teachers are going to pick winners for certificates!  The poems are being recited with accuracy, but it is the passion, expression and skill of performance that has taken our breath away.  Many thanks to everyone who is helping our pupils to learn these at home.  You are doing a great job!

On a very practical note, can I urge everyone to ensure the emergency contact information we hold in school is up to date.  This time last year the weather started to break, and although we are not expecting any immediate disruption to service, you never know when we may need to call you as a matter of urgency.  Here’s hoping a few frosty mornings is as bad as it will get…but (as my Scottish poets would say) this is Scotland efter aw!
