Mrs N’s Notes ~ 11.5.18

I hope you all made the most of the lovely weather we enjoyed over our holiday weekend as the sun seems to be hiding from us again since we came back to school!

The teachers were, of course, working all day on Tuesday.  It was a very busy day with Kirkshaws staff splitting up to make the most of the time we had.  We had some teachers joining in different training events at Langloan and Townhead Primaries, while the rest of us spent the day planning for the rest of the session and even thinking ahead to our improvement priorities for next year. I also managed to nip over to the Civic Centre in Motherwell to find out what was going on at the North Lanarkshire Leadership Festival.

Then…the chicks arrived!  Wow.  What an amazing experience to watch new life appearing right in front of our eyes.  It is all anyone is taking about this week.  That’s what you call ACTIVE LEARNING!

Here, at Kirkshaws, we are committed to making learning relevant and exciting for all our pupils, and the chicks are just ONE way we have done that.  We know that our young people want to gain new knowledge every week and develop their understanding of the world around them.  However, we also know that we need to prepare our children for the next phase of their learning journey by teaching skills relevant for learning, life and work in the 21st Century.  With all of this in mind, we have committed to providing every pupil with an free educational outing this session – taking learning outwith the classroom where we feel this would enhance the lesson.

We also had many transition events going on this week.  Primary 7 had visits from the Home-School Partnership Officer from Coatbridge High and also the Art department.  It will come as no surprise to you that their behaviour, attention and effort were praised by all!

The Fundraisers were also in school this week, planning their remaining events and activities this term.  Look out for some interesting news coming out soon!

Well, it may have been a short week, but we didn’t waste a moment of it.  I think we all deserve a wee rest for the next two days.  See you on Monday…all ready for HEALTH WEEK!
