P5/6 November Reflections

This has been a month of a lot of change for our class. We felt sad to see Miss M Gallagher leave us to go and work in Mossend Primary. We wrote letters to her and got a lovely letter back. We miss her and hope to meet her on the Daily Mile in the park.

We were very busy with Poppy Day and had great fun doing face painting, decorating cakes and playing pin the poppy. We raised a lot of money for Poppy Scotland.

We went to see Fantastic  Mr Fox at Silverburn Cineworld which is a film based on a book by Roald Dahl. It was a great experience to compare the book and film version.

Bryce from our class represented  Holy Family Primary along with P6 and P7 pupils from other classes and we came first !!!

We won medals and trophies and Mrs Wilson went on twitter to say she was very proud of us for giving up our lunchtimes to practise so hard. We feel sad that the two cross country heats have had to be cancelled due to the weather.

We are continuing to learn to read music in P Buzz and have nearly mastered Jingle Bells. In numeracy we are practising our tables using triangle numbers and Mrs Wilson is going to teach us tables tennis today !

In literacy we have focusing on poetry and relating it to Storm Diana.

In ICT we learned about coding and made our own dance based on this.

Please look at twitter to see the clips of us putting our learning into practice.

It has been lovely to have Mrs Gardner back and we are looking forward to working with her this year.

P1 October

October has been a very busy month for primary 1!

At the start of the month we turned our play corner into a supermarket and enjoyed writing shopping lists and using money to buy different types of foods.

Then, at the end of the month we turned it in to a Halloween fancy dress shop! Look at our cool costumes!

As part of our topic work on people who help us, we interviewed Mr Crielly about his role as school janitor.

We also did lots of exciting work on the topic of Halloween and we really enjoyed the Halloween disco.

P5/6 October Reflective Friday

This month has been an important one for the children in our class who have been working hard to prepare for First Friday Mass which they will lead this Friday, All Souls Day. In preparation for this Mass, for the past few weeks we have been remembering our own loved ones who have gone before us, and the children have spent time practising their prayers which they will read on Friday.

On a different note, this month the children also had the exciting task of designing comic strips to teach other children about the health benefits of incorporating more eggs into their diet. These comic strips will be entered into a competition where the winner will have their comic strip drawn by a professional comic book artist!

The children got to see a Treasure Island production which took place within the school, and which they really enjoyed. They also loved doing their Halloween arts and crafts activities in the lead up to Halloween.

Active Literacy, Expressive Arts  H&WB and IDL

P1/2 children have been working hard on their initial sounds, phonemes and common words and have used many different learning opportunities and activities as a stimulus for their learning.  For example A poster for the school Halloween party, an Acrostic Poem about Halloween, fundraising during Rainbow Day for St Andrews  Hospice etc.

This is Our Faith – October and The  Holy Rosary

October is a month dedicated to Mary, (Our Lady) Jesus Mother.  It is the feast  of Our Lady of the Rosary on October the 7th and is celebrated  to honour her.

Here are some of P6/7 with some of the P1/2 children who came along during their Lunch break to join them in a Decade of the Rosary throughout the month of October.

Maths  –  Numeracy , Expressive Arts and IDL

Counting, Pattern, 2D/3D shape and Halloween

As the children learn about numeracy counting and pattern the were able to use Halloween and 2D and 3D shape, which they had been learning about, to create a fantastic Halloween necklace made with colourful halloween shapes.  The were able to count out their shapes and colours to make a repeated pattern of their choice to give as a gift or to  wear to their halloween party that night.  Terrific work boys and girls well done.

Learning about traditional books through Panto!

The children of p1/2 with the whole school, had the fantastic opportunity to learn about Treasure Island in an interactive fun way they really enjoyed it very much and look forward to the next one!

The Transport Police – People Who help us and Developing a Young Work force.

P1/2 along with the whole school  also had a fantastic time when the met officers from the Transport police and were able to ask and answer questions about what they do. The children found it very interesting and enjoyed learning all about their work.

Parent Council Halloween Party

One of the Highlights of October for P1/2 was the fantastic Halloween party organised for the whole school by the Parent Council.  So much work had gone into making this so special for the children and they enjoyed it very much.  Thank you once again for giving up your time to  support  the children in this way and  giving them another  fond memory to add to their Holy Family Collection.

P1/2 also enjoyed creating their Halloween ghosts to decorate the class and take home.

Fantastic work  P1/2 you have really worked hard throughout October and have had lots of fun too!  Well done.
