P1/2 Reflective Friday – May Miss McNally

P1/2 have been very busy this month! We have really enjoyed Health week as we had the opportunity to try cheerleading and cricket! We also made sandwiches/rolls for our whole school picnic.

We also had another picnic this month….a teddy bear picnic! This was in aid of St. Andrews hospice and was so much fun.  We also enjoyed a samba drums workshop earlier in the month. In literacy, we are working hard on our sounds, reading and writing and in Numeracy, we are having great fun making different patterns.

P1/2 Make Jelly!

The boys and girls in primary 1/2 have been very busy learning about food and cooking. We have discussed our likes and dislikes when it comes to food, the different tastes and textures of food and  food for special occasions. We decided that jelly can make an excellent  and delicious desert for special occasions and  so, we decided to make it!

Before we began cooking we designed our very own chef hats with our favourite types of food.

Then, we learned about the rules of cooking and how to be safe in the kitchen. Click on the link below to hear some of the P1/2 children explaining our simple guide to staying safe and hygienic when cooking.  https://vocaroo.com/i/s0aVzWfZjSVB

If you would like to learn how to cook jelly, then you can listen to our simple instructions….

P6/7c Reflective Friday (April)

After weeks of preparation, many of our P6/7 children made the sacrament of Confirmation last week in Holy Family parish.  The children were confirmed by Bishop Toal.  This was a very special evening and the children were a credit to their families and school.

In Maths, we have been learning about Algebra in P6/7c.  The children are becoming more confident in solving equations involving missing letters.  They are also learning how to use information to make up and solve an equation.  Also, the children have continued their topic on Fractions, Decimals and Percentages with Mrs Le Blond.

P7 finished reading The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.  The children watched the film after completing the book and were able to compare the differences between book and film.  P7 then started a new novel called The Thief Lord.  As the book is set in Venice, P7 pupils have been carrying out some research on Venice to help them understand more about the setting.  P6 are finishing their novel study on Goodnight Mr Tom.  They are looking forward to watching the film and then starting a new novel.

Over the last few weeks the children have been taking turns at presenting their learning on WWII.  Some chose to use Powerpoint and others decided to use Sway.  The children carried out their research at home on a certain area that interested them e.g rationing, evacuation, the Holocaust.

Congratulations to P7 for coming 1st place in the Commonwealth Games event at Cardinal Newman High.  They had been preparing for this event for a number of weeks during weekly P.E lessons and we are very proud of you all!

We now have a display of all the Steven Brown inspired art work the children have completed.  After focusing on a few particular pieces of art, the children are now working on a Steven Brown piece of their own choice.

May is going to be an exciting month for P7 as the children are off to Kilbowie!  P6 are also excited about meeting the new P1 children and finding out who their buddy will be!

P2 March/April Reflection with Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Byrne and Mr Stewart

Primary 2 had lots of  Fun During Science  Week   –                                         Here are some more of there captured moments.

Science Literacy and Maths                                                                                            Making and Melting Frozen Fossils

P2 learned about Making and Defrosting/Melting their Frozen Fossils in school with Mrs Stevenson.  as they approach Science Week.                                                                                                                                  Also we would all like to thank  our busy parents carers and friends who helped the children to prepare part of their experiment at home, enabling them to  bring them into school to use to test out a variety of defrosting/ melting techniques.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Later in the week as part of their ‘Genre Writing’, the children were able to write a ‘Set of Instructions’ (including Resources) on, How to Make Frozen Fossils. This enabled them to demonstrate their understanding and show how successful they had been in their learning, not only in this aspect of Science, but also in showing their understanding of how to write a Set of Instructions.  Great Work P2

P5

April has flown in due to the holidays and the children have settled back into school life.  We are working very hard especially on language and maths. Our new novel is The Queens Nose by Dick King Smith and the children are excited about reading it. Now that our swimming block has finished we are back to Tuesday and Friday for P.E. and we hope to get out as much as possible in the summer term. We will be looking at the work of food banks and charities in our topic.  We are very proud of our boys after their fantastic performance in the cross country 2nd overall and 1st and 2nd place,

P4’s Reflective Friday – April 2018

Primary 4 have been busy this month working to improve their numeracy and literacy skills as well as doing brand new things like attempting their very own geodesic domes made from toothpicks and sweets!

We learned that triangles are stronger than square structures. Geodesic domes are made of lots and lots of triangles all next to each other. We all worked hard together to try to make miniature versions of geodesic domes. We felt very proud when we achieved part of it. It was very tricky!

SSPCA Visit

Sian visited us and told us that if there’s a wild animal, you shouldn’t touch it as it might get more stressed. Instead, you should phone the SSPCA on 03000 999 999

She told us that you should never ever leave a dog in a hot car because, sadly, it could overheat and become very ill or even die.

Sian told us all about her job. She showed us a couple of videos about the Scottish SPCA and about owlets (baby owls)

In Writing we continued a story after hearing just the first couple of pages. That book was… George’s Marvellous Medicine! We all had great ideas about what mischief George might get up to and we had to conclude the story by putting things right again. In some stories he turned his gran into a monster; in others he body-swapped with her… We let our imaginations run wild!

In Health and Wellbeing and RME, we have been learning about what makes us unique. We’ve been thinking about our personal qualities and what makes us us. It’s great to see all the boys and girls recognise their characteristics and traits (even if some are not great traits to have, like being moody or always late for things!) and soon we’ll be looking at our talents.

In Religious Education, we learned that in Islam, Muslims have 99 different names for Allah, which all describe different traits and characteristics or different titles and roles, for example The Truth, The All-Seeing, The Gentle, The Just…

We realised that Christians, too, have many different names for God. We used our knowledge of prayers to find some: Our Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit (the holy trinity), the Lord, the Almighty…

P6/7b reflective Friday April

We are now a couple of weeks back from the Easter holidays. We all had a really good time and we are now all back to normal.

Some pupils from the P6/7s celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation. This was a  very special night for all of us especially Daniel who joined us from another school. Bishop Toal and Father Grant led us and everybody joined in the hymns and that was really special for us.

Recently the P6s finished Goodnight Mr Tom and some of the P7s finished The Boy In Striped Pyjamas.  We all agree that both books were really good. We also watched the film version of the book. Some of the people had  imagined what the characters would look like so they were able to compare this with the dramatised version.

In maths we have been learning all about fractions and we are now growing in our confidence as to how to understand them fully.

Over all we are excited for our last term and the last one for all the p7s in Holy Family

By Aaron and Ciara and behalf of P6/7b

Motherwell/Bellshill Cross Country

Well done to the P5-7 cross country team for an excellent effort yesterday.  The children took part in the Motherwell/Bellshill competition at Dalziel Park.  We are so proud that every child completed the challenging course.  A few children improved on their personal best! A special congratulations to one of the P7 boys who came 3rd in his race and to the P5 boys who came 1st and 2nd in their race.  Our P5 boys team came 2nd overall in their category, as did our P6 boys team and P7 boys team!
