P1/2 September Reflections Mrs Stevenson/Mrs Byrne

ACTIVE LITERACY

P1/2 have continued their hard work in literacy as they learn about their alphabet, phonic sounds and common words  to help develop their spelling, reading and writing.   The particularly like to learn outdoors and through active participation, songs and games  etc.

Also P1/2 had their first walk and visit to Bellshill Cultural Centre Library this month. The children learned about joining the library getting their very own library ticket  which they would use if they wanted to borrow a book.  The librarian read them lots of stories, played games then the children got to look at all the great books they might choose when they joined the library.

The  children also found a useful tool for measuring at the library before the went back to school.

STAR WRITERS OF THE MONTH

Here are some of our Star Writers for this month .  Well done Everyone.

NUMERACY

The children have really enjoyed actively engaging with their learning in numeracy and learning about 2 D and 3D shapes.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING – SAFETY                                                                   AND INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING

In all areas of Health and Wellbeing  the children have been learning about Safety.  For example, at home/in school/playing in the playground/walking up and down the stairs etc, as well as Internet safety and P.E.

In P.E and Relaxation,  for example  the children are learning about moving safely.  Following instructions.  Finding a safe space with plenty of room around them so they are not bumping into anyone.  This  will help the children to work well on their own, or as part of a team.  Helping them not only to think of themselves but of others so that they can come together as a successful team.

SOCIAL SCIENCES – PEOPLE WHO HELP US

We are learning a about people who help us and have been thinking about all the people who help us to stay safe and what there jobs are.  We have also had the RSPCC in to our school for a visit and they were able to tell us how to stay safe too.

Primary 6- September reflective post

Primary 6 have had a really fun September. We have been doing lots of fun tasks in class and learned lots of new things.

In maths we have learned all about place value and have now moved on to decimals which we have found a little more difficult but getting the hang of it now but we know we still need to practise. We are still reading our book Tribes and cannot wait to find out what happens next.

We have learned lots about the Scottish Parliament and have been trying to follow what has been going on down in Westminster with Brexit. We are looking forward to our visit to Holyrood in November to learn more about it.

Recently we have started our new topic about Endangered species and will be learning lots about climate change and how it is affecting our world. We have also just started Cricket for PE and are looking forward to our lessons in this sport.

Lots to look forward to in October!

Thanks for reading

Primary 6

Primary 4

When we came back after the summer holidays we  enjoyed seeing our friends and we made our own postcards with a recount of our summer.  We have started reading The Magic Carpet Slippers by Dick King-Smith.  We have read the first five chapters and we are really enjoying the story so far.  We made our own book marks this week and even got them laminated.  These will help us to keep our place when reading. In Maths we have been focusing on place value and addition.  We are learning lots of different strategies.

Our topic for this term is The Rainforest.  We have chatted about that we already know about the Rainforest and planned everything that we would like to learn in the next few weeks.  We are excited about learning about all the different animals that live in the Rainforest! We have also been learning about the life cycle of plants and talking about how they grow.

We enjoyed using chalk pastels last week during our Art lesson.  We explored blending various colours of pastels to colour the petals on the flowers that we drew.

In P.E. we have been focusing on ball skills and we have enjoyed playing some different games.  We really liked playing dodgeball!

Primary 3/4

We have all settled into Primary 3/4 really well and are now getting used to our new routines.

We are all very excited about our new topic this term, The Ancient Egyptians. Already we have been researching the pyramids and even built our own 3D pyramid. We loved recreating and designing our own death masks which are displayed on our topic wall.

In literacy we have been revising our phonemes and common words. The reading tent and blow up doughnut has been so much fun, it helps us with our reading.

In maths we have been working hard on revision with place value and addition. The line up game is really helping reinforce this, plus we get to win prizes.

We are all working really hard and excited for what this year is going to bring as Miss Verrecchia has a lot of things planned for us all.

Reflective Post Primary 6

Primary 6 are settling in well to their new class. We have been having lots of fun already and are looking forward to the rest of the year. We have a lot more responsibility this year and have been doing many jobs around the school.

We have started to work with the children from primary 6 in Mossend primary and will continue to do this all year by participating in the daily mile and workshops together. We have started a mini topic all about the Scottish Parliament and are really interested in whats going on in our country right now and are hoping to visit the Scottish Parliament later this term.

In Maths we have been focusing on place value but also know that we need to practise our times tables often as these are extremely important. We have started a new novel Tribes by Cathy MacPhail and so far we are really enjoying it and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Thank you for reading

Welcome P1/2. First Reflection of the New School Year August 2019 Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Byrne

NEW LEARNING

P1/2 have made a great start to the first term.  They have been learning about School Rules and have even created some of their own.  They have learned where to hang their coats, put their bag,  how to self register for lunch and have found out where many of their other classrooms are throughout the school.  However with   September’s  First Friday Mass coming up, P1/2 paid a visit to the church for the first time as a new P1/2 Class.

R.E.  – T.I.O.F. (This is Our Faith)

Here they are getting ready to go on their first visit to Holy Family Parish Church together…

… and here they are inside, learning how to sit and behave  respectfully.  The children have also been learning  about having respect for others, their faith and beliefs and to treat each other with kindness.  Saying kind words  and using kind hands.

Literacy

The children are learning to read spell and write, through ‘North Lanarkshire’s  Active Literacy Programme’ using lots of their different resources and strategies to help them learn their alphabet, but also to learn what each phonic letter of the alphabet looks and sounds like and how to blend them to make words.  The children  are also using animated film clips and  song to help develop their learning  and  having  a lot of fun (as in Maths)  using shaving foam and bubbles etc., to do this!

Numeracy and Maths

The children are learning about number. ( as well as shape) They are developing their knowledge of the  ‘ SEAL’ approach to learning and are having fun using  these strategies as well as  others  to  develop their learning  in a very enjoyable way.

Learning through Free Play and …

…Outdoor Learning
