PE Timetable
Each class will have PE twice a week. Children can come to school dressed in their PE kit on these days.
PE days are as follows:-
P1- Monday and Thursday
P2- Monday and Wednesday
P2/3- Tuesday and Thursday
P3/4- Tuesday and Thursday
P4- Wednesday and Friday
P5/6- Wednesday and Friday
P6- Tuesday and Friday
P7- Monday and Wednesday

P4/5 have been working harder than ever this month! We have all been reading our novels, Poppet and Tilly and the Badgers, as well as the first Harry Potter book: The Philosopher’s Stone.
Not only have we been working hard reading, we’ve been doing so much maths including times tables, 2D and 3D shapes and objects, and, most recently, fractions.
As well as all this wondering learning, we’ve been busy in the playground and garden doing litter picking, weeding and planting. It has felt really good looking after our planet and keeping active.
Health Week has been great fun, with Sports Day, Outdoor Clean Up, and gardening.

Literacy by Sophia
This month we are enjoying reading the novel The Eleventh Orphan by Joan Lingard. We are enjoying this book so much and want a chance to read aloud. The book is about an orphan called Elfie who is taken in by Ma and Pa Bigsby. We think there might be a mystery in the story.
In writing we have been learning about the genre of explanation and we wrote an explanation of the Circulatory System.
Numeracy by Ushna
In the morning we have been doing a starter of calculating area. We have also been learning about not only decimals but fractions and percentages! It has been busy but we had fun learning lots of new things in numeracy.
RE by Shannon
In RE we said the Rosary of the 24th of May because the Pope said we should pray for all children and young people of this day. As it is the month of Mary we are making sure that we pray as much as possible. We are working hard as a whole school because we have promised to be a Laudato Si school so we are thinking of ways we can help to make the world a better place.
Learning Across the Curriculum by Ava
Over the month of May we have been learning about the human body. On this topic we have been taught how the circulatory system works. We have also been learning about tonal studies in art. We have drawn eyes and half of a celebrity’s face using tone and shade. This month has been so much fun.
Health Week by Alfie
This week is health week and we have been doing lots of activities. On Monday we had our sports day which included a sprint, egg and spoon race and a three legged race. Today we had the job of tidying the yard. We weeded the garden and planted some onions, peas and beans. We also tried lots of different fruits.
We have had a very busy time in Primary 1 during the month of May. We have worked very hard to learn new skills and we have had lots of fun too!
In RME we have been learning all about Mary Our Mother and listening to lovely hymns about Mary. We have been praying the Rosary together and have enjoyed learning how to do this with our friends. We have been learning about how special and unique we are and talked about our qualities and talents.
During our maths activities we have been learning how to tell o’clock time. We are all able to read analogue clocks and can tell our teacher when it is an o’clock time. We have learned about symmetry and finding a line of symmetry. We enjoyed going outdoors to find symmetry in our environments. In our number work we have continued to learn more about numbers to 20 and can read, write and order the numbers. Brilliant work Primary1!
Our class have worked very hard in literacy to learn all of the alphabet sounds since starting school and now we have more hard work to do in learning phoneme sounds. We really enjoy using our magnetic boards to help us to learn the phoneme sounds and have been text detectives in looking for our sounds in our books, in school and at home. In our reading we are beginning to blend our sounds to read short words. Some of us have learned to read all on our own! Fantastic work! We got to go up to the top floor of the school to visit the school library. Some of us thought it was very high up but we really enjoyed choosing a book and hearing a story from our teacher.
To improve our health and wellbeing have been getting ready for our Sports Day and have been practising all of the skills that we will need for our big day. It was so much fun trying out all of the equipment and being in teams with our friends.
We have taken part in health and eco week this week. Here are photographs of some of the things we have taken part in so far.
We have had a very busy month in Primary 1/2.
In maths we have been working on time, addition, subtraction and data handling. Our counters group have been adding to 20 and have been using a variety of concrete materials to help them to explore subtraction. They enjoyed this simple game which they could play at home too.
We have also been learning about tally marks and horizontal/vertical bar charts. The children enjoyed finding out what flavour of ice cream their friends like best then creating their own bar chart. Here is one of our Cubes group members completing a bar chart.
Within literacy, the children have been making good progress through the Active Literacy programme and have spent time revising previously taught phonemes as well as learning some new ones. The children enjoy partner spelling and the games we play to help us learn. Here is one successful learner who was able to match sounds to words which contain the sounds.
The children have also been working on instructions in Taught Writing. They wrote their own recipe for an Ice Cream Sundae as part of their Seaside topic. They also made their own Rainbow Fish and wrote instructions for Primary 1 to use when they made theirs. Here is one of our budding artists showing off his Rainbow Fish.
One of our favourite times of the week is when we choose Star Writers each week. Here are a couple of our superstars in May.
We are really enjoying our topic in primary 1/2 and have participated in a wide range of lessons about the Seaside. We enjoyed our Seaside purposeful play when we were asked to design a new lighthouse for the lighthouse keeper. They children designed lighthouses using playdough and lego. They also created a pattern for their lighthouse and measured pictures of lighthouses. We had a ball being designers for the day.
We also showed off our creativity when we made octopus for our Seaside display in class. Our topic wall looks awesome!
In Science, the children have been learning about living and non-living things. We also explored the habitats of living things. Here are some pupils matching a variety of habitats to the animals that live there.
We are ending May with our Health/Eco Week. The children have been busy sprucing up their playground. They did some weeding and will plant new seeds in our planters. This will ensure the playground looks beautiful in the next few weeks.
