We have been settling in well to Primary 2 and have enjoyed getting to know our new routines. We particularly enjoyed reading the story ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today?’ where we learned that by showing kindness and love, we fill the invisible buckets that other people carry. We are now trying to earn pom poms for our own buckets by working hard, helping and behaving well. Mrs Simpson is very proud of everyone as we are trying so hard!

We have been revising a variety of previously taught phonemes and common words within Literacy, and have been carrying out a range of tasks and activities to consolidate our previous learning. We especially loved playing the game ‘Pot Luck’ with a partner, and using playdough to make ‘ch’ words.

In Maths we have been focusing on addition up to 20. We are learning a range of strategies to help us to do this. We also enjoy our number talks and using our Show Me boards to help us learn.

We have been learning Spanish and especially enjoyed the games we played to help us learn Spanish colours. Mrs Simpson is very proud as we are already doing our register and following commands in Spanish. Muy bien Primary 2!!

Literacy – Interdisciplinary and Outdoor Learning

February Star Writers 

Big Garden Birdwatch     –   P 2 Had a great time when they ‘quietly’ ventured out into the Holy Family playground, garden and community park, to find and record the types of bird groups who like to visit, spend time there and use our school to feed.  It was tricky trying to be especially quiet, but they did a wonderful job.

Later during a writing lesson they were able to revisit the experience, discuss it and write about it.

The Antarctic                                                                                                                          The children are learning about hot and cold climates and are also enjoying learning about the animals, people who live there and their lifestyles.   At the moment they have been finding out a lot about the Antarctic.  This topic is child led and the children are enjoying leading their learning.  To begin with, the children recorded some of the information that they know about the Antarctic, what they would like to know, and will build a record to finally show what they have learned.

Health and Wellbeing  – A welcome Visit from the Dental Nurse 

 

P2 were very happy to welcome their Dental  Nurse when she visited the school. Bringing them new toothbrushes and toothpaste, she kindly re-visited all the important points the children should remember as they diligently cleaned their teeth.  The children were able to tell her the best way they should do this and how often, but that importantly, teeth should always be cleaned night and morning to keep them healthy and strong.  Cleaning them after every meal would be even better.    Terrific good listening skills boys and girls.  Keep cleaning those beautiful teeth!

Pyjama and Movie Afternoon                                                                                      As the children of Holy Family and P2 enjoy their Pyjama and Movie day, P2 and their Star Writers  for this week, celebrate their successful Report Writing, about the Life Cycle of the Penguin too.  Great Work P2.

    

Fun Friday Lenten Fundraiser Events
The Beginning of our Fun Friday Lenten Fundraiser Events, kicked off with Pyjama and Movie Afternoon.  The children had a terrific time and enjoyed relaxing after all their hard work.  What makes it even better, is they get to raise money for their Lenten Charities at the same time.

Thank you sincerely, to all parents, family and friends who are helping to support the children and school as they endeavor to do this.

RERC – THIS IS OUR FAITH                                                                                            As we Leave Christmas and January behind, Primary 2 have been looking at and learning about Jesus Family and Ours, Ordinary Time (Green) in the  Liturgical Calendar  and Liturgical Colours. (Green/Purple/Red/Pink/White-Gold)  As we approach February, an early Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent (Liturgical Colour Purple) on the 14th February, the children will be learning about  Lent, Alms Giving, Making Sacrifices and Thinking about and Caring for others as we approach this  special prayerful time we give to God.

Numeracy and  ICT – Money, 2 Times Table and Sumdog!

 

  

The children have been enjoying using ICT to help actively participate in their learning.   Here are some of the children in the ICT suite working with money, learning about their 2 times table through song and interactive games and in particular at the moment they are  enjoying getting to know ‘Sumdog’ and have had fun using this site  to find out what they know, as well as helping the children to develop their new learning in school and  at home as well.

Here, the children are working and supporting each other, as each person in each group  individually takes turns, to write down a word that begins with their groups letters:   R. O. B. E. R. T.   B.U.R.N.S.

This gave the class a selection of words that could help them begin each line of their Robert Burns, Acrostic Poem.

The children enjoyed this very much and worked very hard on their poems.

Art – Snow and Pointillism

 

Above our Star Writers in the same picture, you will notice some more of our children’s fantastic artwork as they learned about ‘Pointillism’ with Mrs Stevenson .  These beautiful snowmen were inspired by the real ones they made with Mrs Stevenson as they enjoyed the snow last Wednesday.

P.E – Football Coaching

This is the 2nd Week of football coaching and some of the children are enjoying it more than they imagined they would.  Here they are having fun learning and developing some of the techniques they require to control the ball as they progress in their ability and knowledge of the game.
