February has been a busy month for Primary 3/4. The children have been very welcoming to Mrs Henry who is here to work with the class for six weeks.
Ancient Egypt
We have been learning about Ancient Egypt and really enjoyed using a range of materials to build Egyptian boats. We even tested them, and we were delighted to discover they all floated!
We also researched Egyptian clothes and jewellery and found out many different interesting facts, including the specific colours Egyptians wore. We then created our own beautiful Egyptian necklaces which are displayed in our classroom.
The children have enjoyed sharing their knowledge about Ancient Egypt and are looking forward to continuing our learning throughout the topic.
Literacy
In literacy we have been learning how to write reports. We have been using subheadings to organise information. We wrote fantastic reports about honey bees and showcased our learning from our topic to write a report about The River Nile.
We have visited the library and enjoyed selecting a new reading book to take home. We loved listening to stories read by our librarian, followed by a great game of book bingo.
Back in class we have been participating in a range of activities and games to help us learn to combine two words to create compound words.
This Is Our Faith
During our RE time we have enjoyed meditating. We have been reflecting on how to be a follower and a friend of Jesus. We have created some wonderful role plays and performed them to the class. I am certain we have future movie stars in our midst!
Numeracy
In numeracy we are continuing learning about subtraction. We are particularly focusing on using numbertalks and learning how to explain the strategies we used to get our answers.
We have also been learning about 3D shape. We have used a feely box and can identify cubes, spheres, pyramids, cuboids and rectangular prisms. We are going to continue learning all about 3D shape and will even have a go at constructing our own Pyramids!
Global Play Day
Global Play Day was a huge success in Holy Family school and in P3/4 we had a great time building dens, playing with our toys and having class competitions with our ring toss game.
I have had a great month getting to know all the kind and hardworking children in P3/4. The children have made me feel like part of this wonderful school family.
