November Reflective Friday P1/2 Mrs Stevenson/Mrs Byrne

Literacy /Interdisciplinary Learning/People Society Economy and Business and Tesco Visit

P1/2 have  been very busy and have enjoyed many Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL) opportunities  that have inspired their topical writing about People Who help us and Developing the Young Work Force.  Below are some of our inspired Star Writers

Tesco Visit

One of these inspirational visits was to Tesco Bellshill, where Barbara kindly escorted them round the store, where they met various members of staff and learned about their different roles in the store.  They learned about how large quantities of fresh food is stored in the ‘Chill’ and frozen food  in the ‘Freezer’ and the maximum time you are allowed to work inside the freezer is 20 mins and that protective clothing must be worn while in there, to keep warm.  The children  also enjoyed visiting the bakery to see how bread is made.  Some  of the children’s highlights before they went home was getting to operate the till at the checkout and have a bread, cheese, and fruit tasting session before they went home.

Here is a picture story of the children’s visit. They hope you enjoy it.

Reading and Our Library Visit

P1/2 also had a fantastic opportunity to visit Bellshill Cultural Centre/Library for the first time together where the were read to and had a wonderful story time through story and song. They then were able to register for their very own Library Card and choose a book to take home.  P1/2 enjoyed their visit very much and can’t wait for their next visit in December.

Maths Stations

Shape, Numeracy, Learning about Money and Enterprise.

The children are enjoying their Maths and having fun deepening their learning through their Maths Stations and as they begin learning about money, they have been discussing what it would cost to make Reindeer dust for the Christmas Fayre and make a profit.  Also importantly, what is profit? (More pics to come)

P1/2 have enjoyed learning about Shape and had fun as the participated in a group Shape hunt in their classroom to find out what they have learned.

RERC/Art

In November we began to practise for our P1, P1/2 and P3 ‘Wriggley Nativity’ and  although we will hear more about it in our December reflections here are some pictures of our rehearsals.

We also learned about some of the special feasts that take place at this time. For example Christ the King, which is the last Sunday before the beginning of Advent, but also that this month is especially dedicated to the Holy Souls, when we remember (in our ‘November List’ ) and pray for our Family and Friends who have died.  We also remember our Patron Saint of Scotland Saint Andrew who’s feast day falls on the last day of November.  (30th)

Here are some of the children making their St Andrews Flag in a Mozaic style to  commemorate  this special day.

Terrific P1/2, you have really worked very hard in November!  Keep working hard and very well done!
