We have been continuing work on our WW2 topic by tracking the build up to war using maps and arrows to highlight the movements of the allies and axis in 1939. One group has also been reading from the novel, Carrie’s War which has helped us understand what life was like for evacuees.
Kilbowie Day 2
Children have had a fabulous day today. Activities have included skiing, canoeing, rock climbing, night line and scavenger hunt.
P2 Learning French
Primary 2 are enjoying learning some French greetings. The boys and girls can ask and answer, “What is your name?” and, “How old are you?” in French. Practise asking and answering these questions with someone at home! We display the new vocabulary on our French window.
Sing along to a French song about greetings by searching, “French greetings song for children” on YouTube.
Remembrance Day
Primary 5 enjoyed working in groups to draw a poppy and fill it with written information about Remembrance Day. They already knew lots of facts and enjoyed sharing personal stories of the war. Our class iPads helped us to research different facts. We are looking forward to beginning our research about evacuees in the war as part of our Remembrance Day topic.

Our German Visitor
Frau Kusian works at the Goethe Instituit in Glasgow promoting German language and culture and she came to visit P4 and P4/5 today.
We practised the German we had already learned at school and she also taught us some new words. This picture shows her asking us about the German names for pet animals and wild animals and the sounds they make in German. We are learning about these animals with our German puppets Felix and Franzi.
We sang to her in German and told her how we were feeling.
We had a great time and she said that she did too.
Auf Wiedersehen. Bis bald.
It’s Magic with Izak9
Primary 5 had great fun using our latest resource in Mathematics, Izak9. Our challenge was to use the digits 1-9 to make a Magic Square. In a Magic Square all the rows, columns and diagonals have the same total. We had to work co-operatively to work out the answer in our teams. We were all very proud of our hard work and delighted to be able to produce a solution.
We also tried making Addition Steps. The total of each column had to be the sam even with the different number of steps. We managed to produce several different solutions in our teams.
Why not try some Magic Cubes, or Addition Stepping yourself. You can do them on paper, or use some of the interactive sites available.
Kilbowie 2015
We have arrived safely!!! Children have made their beds, unpacked and had lunch. We are heading out on our first activity. Photographs to follow.
