The boys and girls in this leadership group are planning a Fairtrade event for parents, carers and members of the school and extended community to attend and enjoy. Some children created invitations while others baked Fairtrade banana loaves and carrot cakes which will be frozen and stored until the event!

Food/Fairtrade Leadership Group
Today our group began the task of creating our display to let others know what we do during leadership time. We made display lettering from recycled rubbish and began painting the background of our design. Stay tuned to see how it turns out!
Teach Your Teacher Day!
The children in Primary 5 have swapped roles with Miss Gillespie today and yesterday as she became a student and they became the teacher! All the children worked in groups to plan a 45 minute lesson. Each group worked well in their teams to think of a topic, write a lesson plan and organise all of their resources. We learnt about different art techniques, cars, South Africa, the Euros and different sports. Miss Gillespie was very impressed with all the aspiring teachers and enjoyed being a pupil for the morning!
UEFA Euro 2016
Primay 5 took part in their own Euro 2016 football tournament in PE today. The boys had a French, Welsh and English team competing in the tournament. Whilst the girls had a Welsh, Italian and French team taking part. All players showed some impressive skills and were all very competitive!
Delightful Debating
Primary 5 were very passionate when debating about saving the rainforest today. The children worked in groups to debate for and against saving the rainforest. They each took on a role of a character and explored ideas of meat processing companies who need the land for cattle ranches. We also had some Greenpeace campaigners who explained that 20% of our oxygen comes from the rainforest and that many animals and indigenous peoples’ homes are being destroyed.
Learning in the Sunshine
Primary 5 have loved being able to learn in our fabulous gardens in the sunshine.
Expressive Arts
Today we were developing our skills in drawing still life objects. We looked at some of the flowers in our garden and discussed how everybody looks at an object differently. Some of us prefer to focus on the detail, whilst others like to look at the shapes and colours.
Taught Writing
We also enjoyed the sunshine whilst writing persuasive pieces of writing. We were trying to convince people to save the rainforests and to prevent deforestation.
Gardening
We have also been very helpful in making sure our vegetables and plants are being watered in the garden.
Outdoor Learning in P5
Primary 5 have been learning about angles in the school garden. They enjoyed looking for right angles, acute angles, obtuse angles and reflex angles.
We also loved working with Hidden Gardens to help develop our school gardens this week. We learnt about crop rotation and how to sow seeds. Hopefully our courgette, squash, french beans and runner beans will grow soon!
Volcano Experiment
Today in P5 we were erupting our volcanoes that we made. We used diet coke and mentos in our science experiment to create an eruption. It was interesting to find out that diet irn bru worked better at making a big eruption rather than the diet coke. We had so much fun!

Data Handling and Poetry
Primary 5 have enjoyed a busy week learning about different poetry techniques. We have looked at rhyme, repetition, onomatopoeia, personification, similies and metaphors. We have created our own poems using the different techniques we have learnt.
We have also been working well with a partner to collect data by carrying out a survey. We then used our knoweldge of different graphs to choose the most approriate graph to present our data.
Amazing Art
P5 were so excited to see their artwork in the gallery today! We loved looking at all the amazing paintings and drawings. You should all be so proud of yourselves!
