Rainbow Research – Primary 4

image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image image

As part of our weather topic, we have been researching how rainbows are formed and finding out other interesting facts.  We also carried out an experiment to create our own rainbow in the classroom, by using a jar of water, a sheet of plain white paper and the power of the sun.  During the Open Day on Friday, we are going to be making our own rainbow collages, using mixed media, such as crepe paper, tissue paper, foil, felt and other materials in all the different colours of the rainbow.

Our class were in the cooking room on Tuesday and we had great fun making our Fairtrade banana muffins.  The ingredients were bought from the local Co-op and were all Fairtrade products.  The ingredients were plain flour, butter, eggs, bicarbonate of soda, baking powder and bananas.  We worked well in our groups to mix the ingredients together and spoon the mixture into the paper cases.  We had to wait half and hour until they were ready but it was worth the wait.  They were absolutely delicious!

Primary 4 – Wonderful Weather

We have been working extremely hard today on researching various types of extreme weather in the world.  We worked in our co-op learning groups to research storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis and lightning.  Did you know that tornadoes can reach up to speeds of 483 kilometres per hour?  Did you also know that thunder and lightning happen at the same time, but because light travels faster than sound, we see lightning before we hear the thunder?

Primary 4 – Talking and Listening

The Authors reading group have recently finished their group novel, The Best Dog in the World by Sylvia Green.  The children had to present a talk to the rest of the class about their special dog.  Each pupil or pair had to make sure that they included a detailed description of what their dog looked like, the breed or type of dog it was, how their dog behaved and why it was so special to them.  When presenting their information, the children had to make sure that they made good eye contact with their audience, their voice was loud and clear enough for their audience to hear and the content o.f their talk was both interesting and informative.  The audience also had an important job to do as they were assessing the presentations by recording what was interesting, how the readers  caught their attention and advice about how to make any improvements.  Well done Primary 4.

Primary 4 – Ready Steady Cook Challenge

We rose to the cooking challenge set by Mrs Martin by making  fantastic frittata.  The ingredients included cheese, eggs, spring onion and new potatoes.  We all enjoyed working in our groups preparing the vegetables, mixing the ingredients, designing our own placemats and creating our menus.  We all had a piece of the frittata and it was delicious!

P4 – Drama

We really enjoyed taking part in our recent drama lessons when we had to work with our peers on various tasks, such as writing a script and performing to an audience using mime. We had to look at an image of a little girl looking into a doll’s house that was full of little fairies and pixies.  There were also sinister looking faces in the background and we had to try to work out how the girl got there in the first place , where the fairies came from and who did the sinister faces belong to.

Fractions

We have been working extremely hard on learning about fractions of shapes and fractions of numbers.  One group was working on quarters of regular shapes and the other groups were using their knowledge of times tables to help them work out thirds, fifths and tenth of numbers.  Some of the children also used cubes to help them find the answers.

Pupils from Our School Choir Perform for Sense Scotland 23 November 2015

Pupils from our school choir excelled themselves at a concert in aid of Sense Scotlnd on Monday night. The concert venue was the beautiful Glasgow City Chambers and the pupils sang beautifully to an audience that included many Glenmanor parents and family members. Thank you for your fantastic support as always. We sold 59 of the allocated 60 tickets, making £501.50 for the charity.
