Primary 5’s First Week Back

Primary 5 have loved learning about our new topic- The Rainforest and Deforestation. We enjoyed looking at the 4 layers of the Rainforest- the emergent layer, the canopy, the understory and the forest floor.

We have been making the most of the sunshine in PE. We worked together to measure how far we could jump in long jump. There are definitely some aspiring Olympic Athletes in the class!

Primary 4 – HWB/Mathematics and Numeracy

We had great fun today doing our  P.E.  lessons out in the sunshine.  We have just started our Athletics programme and focused today on different styles of jumps, such as long jump, standing jump and triple jump.  We used our measuring skills to measure our partner’s jumps and recorded them in our maths jotters in metres and centimetres.  Next time, we will estimate how far we can jump, record our jump then compare the two measurements.

Primary 4 – Expressions and Equations

We have been working really hard on our maths tasks linked to Expressions and Equations.  We have been finding out how to use the symbols for greater than and less than when comparing two numbers.  Some of the children have been learning how to solve  simple equations by working out the value of a letter, such as n or x.  Some examples of these equations:

n +6 = 15  so  n = 9               73 – n = 49 so  n = 24

We also designed our own Expressions and Equations posters to help us to remember the symbols.

P5 Busy Bees

Primary 5 have had a busy time at school learning new things and taking part in different opportunities.

In maths, we have been learning about division. We made the most of the sunshine and practised our sums outside.

We have also been looking at the artist Piet Mondrian. We created some of our own paintings in the style of his work and we listened to swing music whilst we painted, just as Piet Mondrian did!

We really enjoyed cooking our fairtrade breakfast in the learning kitchen. We made blueberry and banana breakfast muffins and they were delicious! We used as many fairtrade products from the Co-Operative as we could.

Telling the time with Primary 4

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning all about time and how important it is to be able to tell the time .  We also identified where we see and use time in our daily lives, such as class timetables, train and bus timetables, Sky TV guide, etc.  We have been playing time games on the smart board, bingo games, using TV guides to work out how long our favourite TV programmes last and creating our own fantasy class timetables.
