Glenmanor Garden Party – Primary 4

We had a fabulous time celebrating the 50th anniversary of our school.  We had great fun taking part in the scavenger  hunt then had a look at all the wonderful enterprise stalls, including our own.  Then we had some of the delicious cakes and refreshing drinks.  We came back into the hall and worked with our parents, carers and other family members on making our newspaper plant pots.  Once our pots were made, we filled them with compost and sprinkled some seeds into the soil.  A fantastic time was had by all.image image image image image image image image image image image image image

Learning in the Sunshine

Primary 5 have loved being able to learn in our fabulous gardens in the sunshine.

Expressive Arts

Today we were developing our skills in drawing still life objects. We looked at some of the flowers in our garden and discussed how everybody looks at an object differently. Some of us prefer to focus on the detail, whilst others like to look at the shapes and colours.

Taught Writing

We also enjoyed the sunshine whilst writing persuasive pieces of writing. We were trying to convince people to save the rainforests and to prevent deforestation.

Gardening

We have also been very helpful in making sure our vegetables and plants are being watered in the garden.

Outdoor Learning in P5

Primary 5 have been learning about angles in the school garden. They enjoyed looking for right angles, acute angles, obtuse angles and reflex angles.

We also loved working with Hidden Gardens to help develop our school gardens this week. We learnt about crop rotation and how to sow seeds. Hopefully our courgette, squash, french beans and runner beans will grow soon!

Theme Park Posters

As part of our non-fiction block, we have been finding out about the important features of posters and leaflets,  looking at how organisations persuade and encourage customers to buy their good or services.  We had great fun looking at examples of posters and leaflets produced by theme parks, such as Alton Towers and Thorpe Park and decided to create our own theme park, creating attractive and interesting posters.

First Heat of the Great Glen Bake Off

A huge well done to everyone who took part in the first heat of the Great Glen Bake Off. We were extremely impressed with the standard of cooking and the talented bakers we have in school! Well done to all the children in P1-3 who did a super job decorating cakes. Mrs Burke and the Captains tasted all the bakes and had the tough decision of choosing two bakes to put through to the final. Congratulations to Max and Leo who have made it through to the P4-7 final.

Primary 4 welcomed parents, carers, grans, papas and other family members to our school open event last Friday.  We all had a fabulous time telling our visitors interesting facts about rainbows.  Then we used a variety of mixed media, such as tissue paper, crepe paper, felt, fabric and other materials to create our wonderful rainbows.  The adults had as much fun as we did!  Primary 4 would like to say a big thank you to everyone who visited us.

QUAKING TIME IN P7

Today in p7 we had a parent’s open day. Our task was to build an earthquake proof building using marshmallows, straws and toothpicks. In addition the criteria stated that our buildings should be at least 25cm tall and have two stories. Once we had finished our buildings we tested them out by putting them on a tray of jelly and shaking the tray. If the building did not collapse then we would have a second test by putting a weight on it if it didn’t collapse with a weight on it we would put another weight on! During our task we had a false earthquake alarm and we all got under the tables and pulled our chair in, all the parents began to laugh (which you really shouldn’t do if there is a real earthquake.)  We had a good result, none of buildings fell down!!!!   2b68a5f0-8986-42d5-8937-3dcd13f4a4297d282409-2cc6-406b-90b0-ac846e4e54762d05bc19-0941-4596-b5cf-c4953d849594 68bdbe67-9132-4f99-84fd-60854ddd5d9b 346c040f-aac8-4ec7-86ce-c9507e1fc488 c23dc34a-026e-4719-9784-dcb34fc8ee14 fe311234-a81b-4943-81a2-36b0db2eed60

Fairtrade Banana Muffins – Primary 4

Our class were in the cooking room on Tuesday and we had great fun making our Fairtrade banana muffins.  The ingredients were bought from the local Co-op and were all Fairtrade products.  The ingredients were plain flour, butter, eggs, bicarbonate of soda, baking powder and bananas.  We worked well in our groups to mix the ingredients together and spoon the mixture into the paper cases.  We had to wait half and hour until they were ready but it was worth the wait.  They were absolutely delicious!

Banana Sushi

Last week in primary 7 we were making crepes with Nutella and banana. We made them from scratch with flour, milk and an egg. We mixed them all together and poured the batter into the pan and waited for it to cook. We even attempted to flip the pancakes!

After they were cooked we spread on our Nutella. Then we put our banana at the end of our pancake and carefully rolled it up. Next we cut it into bite size pieces and finally we got to eat them. They were very tasty.

The reason we were cooking this particular recipe was because it has recently been Pancake Tuesday and also because Fairtrade fortnight is focusing on breakfast food. In addition bananas and chocolate are typically associated as Fairtrade produces.

When we were not cooking were writing poems about the things we love and drawing portraits of our self to go with them. (written by Leah and Alexis)
